Album Notes

The University of Central Florida’s Flying Horse Big Band had the pleasure of inviting tenor saxophonist and composer Harry Allen to this, the eighth album for UCF’s Flying Horse Records. Harry Allen penned several originals and arrangements, and we also include a repertory number, Raincheck, with a nod to Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. There are numerous arrangements written for the band, as well as a couple originals, BMOC and The New Creole Love Call. Also, Michael Philip Mossman’s thrilling Partido Blue adds a Brazilian flair.
Harry Allen is a superb musician and wonderful guest artist who performed marvelously on this recording. Concurrently, the Flying Horse Big Band swings with authority, with a bounty of wonderful soloists: saxophonists Saul Dautch, , Andy Garcia and Gabe Wallace, guitarist Ryan Waszmer, trumpet players Alex Lewis and Josh Toler, pianist Mudel Honoré and upcoming young trombonists Christian Herrera and Lentzy Jean-Louis.
