Album Notes
The Following
Michael Carpenter

Growing up in the seventies I was heavily influenced by The Beatles, CSNY, Kansas, Styx and many others. My favorite bands are the hard rock bands that played ballads. I feel
they're able to get the passion out of the music and into the heart.

When I start writing it seems that I am usually reflecting on the sadness that I see in society. People keep busy doing their stuff, things that we all use to distract ourselves from the loneliness and heartbreak that we go through. Through my music I hope people sense that I understand how bad things can be (been there, done that) and hope that someone may find the same inner peace that I have been able to find.

In 1994 I formed Coming Rain. We played local festivals, coffee shops and bars in the Tri-Cities. In 1996 I moved my family to Nashville in search of "the big-time" and formed
Blue Savanah. What I discovered was that the "big-time" was "selling yourself to the corporate music machine", and that was not the musical life that I was searching for. We
moved to Spokane in 1998 and I have been the bass player/guitar player at Hope City Church ever since. In 2001 I released Tuesday Blue as The Following (a solo project of original music). In 2002 I released Origins of a Concept (a compilation of live and studio recordings) with Coming Rain.

Currently I play monthly gigs at City Gate, an outreach kitchen in downtown Spokane. I am also setting up tour dates to support my newest release, Coloring Outside The Lines.

My live style is acoustic solo rock guitar with melancholy originals mixed with old rock favorites and a few strange songs mixed in. I love to get the audience to sing along and sometimes help with the sound effects. I live a musical life and I believe that it is the musicians who can soothe the pain and perhaps offer some insight for this mixed up world we live in.
