ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Frankie's Dream is a true reflection of the bay area's colorful musical history. The groups influences have combined to create a familiar yet unique style that invites you in and makes you feel at home with its warm and appealing sound. While most of today's up and coming bands try to gain attention by being shocking or em
ploying candy coated productions to achieve success, Frankie's Dream relies on talent, integrity and sheer perseverance.

The band's namesake Frank Ellis has a rich musical background that began when he formed "The Mad Brothers" which mixed comedy in their shows and became very popular in the area. Their success led them to become an opening act for such stars as Maria Muldaur and Creedance Clearwater Revival. Frank's songs integrate his views on current events with a great deal of respect paid to those who paved the long and winding road before him. Guitarist and singer/songwriter Steve Keating's free-thinking family background instilled in him a passion for music, travel and living life to the fullest. While traveling in India he was inspired to begin writing his own material which after 20 years and many, many miles later continues to flourish. His original composition "Hall of Mirrors" won first place in Billboards songwriting contest in the pop category in 1996.

Bass player and backup vocalist Randy McGowan brings an abundance of musical expertise to the stage. His repertoire runs the gamut from rock to jazz, the blues, country, and even gospel. If it's a musical genre, he's played it! Much of Randy's career has been spent touring internationally while managing and producing many artists. Last but certainly not least, he continues laying down one of the most solid bass lines around.

Percussionist John Hasty began his musical pursuits playing keyboard but quickly realized that drums were better suited to his love of rhythm. One of the first bands he played in was also "The Mad Brothers". His early influences were groups with strong rhythm-based grooves which led him to include hand drums into his kit to achieve a warm organic sound. His steady and engaging style are an integral part of what makes Frankie's Dream a memorable and entertaining show. Whether playing in a local bar or a large venue Frankie's Dream's goal is to get their audience to relax, enjoy, and have a good time.
Vocalist and lead guitarist Normal Collins, a transplanted Midwesterner, singer, songwriter, and guitarist, started his professional career in Nashville. While pitching his songs and occasionally working as a session player, Collins continues working on his songwriting and performed in Nashville Clubs. After meeting Hank Ballard and recording in the Chess Studios in Chicago, Collins toured with Ballard, John Haitt and various other bands in the US. He finally ended up in Los Angeles, playing Top 40 funk music in Watts. A friend's need for a guitarist brought Norman up north to San Francisco. After leading various original band formations, Norman attracted the interest of multi-talented musician and producer Scott Mathews. The result of their collaboration is "The Man About Town", a timeless, entertaining and highly acclaimed CD.
