Wicked

A genre-defying collision. Rock meets everything else head-on. We threw the music up in the air and this is where it landed.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From the eerie echoes of "Thin End Of The Wedge" to the hypnotic "Throes", this CD has it all:

Rock guitars and drum machines.
Pedal steel and a djembe.
Congas and a backwards piano.
'70's funk and an underwater guitar.
The sound of walls falling down. Literally.
Backwards Bible verses and a human heartbeat.
Three harmonicas and a laser beam.
Footsteps.
Doors slamming behind you.

Full-bodied vocals flow through enthralling lyrics of deception, heartbreak, life gone awry, falling prey to dirty human emotions, willful revenge.
"Creepin'" blasts through the speakers with a morality tale of secretive lust. "I Know" blends Spanish guitar with a hip-hop beat that begs to be played again and again. The tribal beat hammered out in "Voracious" leads the way to an artful mix of backwards vocals, space-age keyboards, and surprise humor.
"Cure For The Common Heartbreak" is a desperate attempt to throw off loneliness and despair. "So This Is Goodbye" is that rare realistic song about the end of relationships. No great epiphanies. No soul-searching. No spit and polish.
"Not So Far", a simple piano ballad, provides a momentary escape from the harsh realities of life. "Path Of Least Resistance" is about finding what you love and letting it kill you.
'Wicked' is a genre-defying collision of musical styles. We simply don't know what to call it. You decide.

And yes, those are mistakes. We left them in. Brought to you by actual human beings.

Welcome to our world.
No stitches, no lines.

Rodney Hamon

Songs of defiance & despair from swamp funk to soulful ballads.
Be prepared to be hooked by this CD. Michael Franklin and Greg Stapleton have produced a piece of work that resists categorization and follows a journey of defiance and despair that will draw you in. From the hip-hop swamp groove of "Creepin" to the effective piano-led ballads like "That Wall", then back to the cosmic-funk "Voracious"
and "Skin", this is all fine stuff masterfully strung together with subtle (and occasionally spooky) sound effects between the songs... footsteps, doors, crickets, heartbeats. There are many great songs here, all written or co-written by Michael Franklin and delivered with true soul by Greg Stapleton. Wicked?... You bet!
