Album Notes
"Secondhand Smoke - A Tribute to Frank Marino" CD

Frank Marino, the 70's rock guitar guru from the band "Mahogany Rush" has long been held in high regard by his peers for many years and now they get a chance to prove it. The mere mention of his name to many of the world's top guitarists like Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Marty Friedman, Steve Lukather, Paul Gilbert, Ronnie Montrose and George Lynch will evoke the responses of "Amazing", "Phenomenal", "Un-copyable", "Relentless", "Legend" and of course "Superhuman"!

This Frank Marino tribute CD features 10 tracks from 10 top guitarists such as Ronnie Montrose, George Lynch, Jennifer Batten, Rick Ray, Jeff Cloud, Audley Freed, James Byrd, Karl Cochran, Randy Hansen and John Norum. The uniqueness of this tribute is that each artist was given full reign over their selected track and not by just throwing a solo over some backing track. What you hear is their version from start to finish. The music varies from Rock to Jazz to Symphonic Metal to Tribal Rock and all points in between.

Secondhand Smoke Smokes 'em All!
The highlights of this CD are the 1st 10 tracks. George Lynch opens the CD with a powerful rendition of In My Ways and everyone that follows keeps it flowing nicely. This is easily the best tribute album ever produced. If you take those best guitarist polls and turn 'em upside down you pretty much get a more accurate reading. Well, Frank Marino is not usually on those lists - That's how good he is! Really, If you haven't heard Frank this is a great introduction and if you've been a Mahogany Rush fan this is a great reminder. Either way buy this CD and seek out the originals.

The best tribute cd that I've ever heard!
Frank Marino is generally not a household name nor mentioned in those ridiculous "best guitarist" polls, but the mere mention of his name will bring a smile to the many that have seen him play. He is considered the "forgotten" one, but he is respected highly in the music industry by the musicians (not the critic a-holes). This tribute covers a wide variety of Frank Marino's styles from the rock/blues era of Mahogany Rush to the jazz/rock/blues era of Frank Marino. Every song on here is a gem. I recommend this CD highly to any fans of good rock guitar.

I was amazed at the quality and diversity.
Not many CD's get 5 stars from me. I was so skeptical about this as most tributes usually suck or have just one good track. This one really grabs you from the get go. Great selection of tunes and some really good players. I am most impressed with the production. Each artist apparently produced their entire track and you would never know it. They all sound great. No dogs here either. Frank Marino is the most underrated guitarist ever and I am happy to write this 5 star review about a long overdue tribute.
