Album Notes
A Brief Statement Concerning Who I Am

There is a fundamental reality that is God, and our spirits always move nearer to Him when Goodness, Beauty, and Truth are before us. All three together in any form sing loudest of His glory.

How many times we have heard a person experiencing a beautiful cloud formation, sunset, distant galaxy cluster, childbirth, etc., exclaim, “There must be a God!”

I think there has been an assault on the arts concerning Goodness, Beauty and Truth these last few decades. I think this assault is a rejection of these concepts in our culture as a whole.

Redefining Goodness to include what we in our hearts, just know is bad, invites insanity.
Ignoring Beauty dulls our senses until the gray ugliness of mediocrity becomes our highest expectation.
Rejecting Truth enslaves us to the basest desires of our senses.

There is sculpture that is good, but it is not beautiful or true.
There is music that is beautiful, but it tells us lies.
There is theater that tells the truth, but leaves us in despair because it delivers no beauty or goodness.

The uglier and darker our art, music, and theater become, the less of God’s presence we perceive in our daily lives.

But He is here, whether we believe or not.

So, where I see the wonder of His handiwork, I want to make it known, because I desire to make Him known. There is a bright light that shines in this shallow darkness. That light is in the hands of the painter, songwriter, playwright, author, movie director. Not only the artist, but every one of us has opportunity to bring others closer to the abiding love of God. Any time we express Goodness, Beauty, and Truth together in any form, we point the way to the loving, providing, Creator who has given all good things into our hands.

When I paint, sculpt, design, or make music, it’s as if the capstone is removed from a wellspring of joy. Cool Living Water flows up from somewhere deep, deep down, and washes me until I know only one thing; My Creator loves me very much, and He is pleased with me.

It is my desire that the work I produce reveals the truth of the Creator’s delight in you.
