Album Notes
Anatomica, Frantic Clam's highly anticipated sophomore release follows fresh on the heels of their critically acclaimed Celebrity EP. Recorded over five days in a century old bungalow in Temple, Texas, their new release captures Frantic Clam's unique and original sound with Zack, Jack, and Vasanth playing together in the same room as a band.
Anatomica reflects with honesty and poignancy, this past year's struggles as the band seeks to solidify this place in the Austin music scene and aboard. Anatomica was released officially on January 14th, 2009 on Exemplary Records.

"[Anatomica] easily demonstrates that the horizon could be endless. Anatomica screams of a young band progressing, moving beyond their influences in order to discover their own sound." -

"Austin's latest greatest indie export is Anatomica, by the band Frantic Clam" -

"The challenge for Frantic Clam was assuring us all that their initial success [Celebrity] wasn’t a fluke, that the band could actually deliver. And just as with Built by Snow, the answer is a resounding "Yes." -

Thoroughly enjoyable!
Catchy, fun, glam-rock!

By the time the undeniably infectious falsetto vocals make their initial appearance in "We Own the Night," the propulsive first track on the sophomore EP from these Austin indie rockers, you'll be well on your way to submitting to their slinky-sweet sounds. The track builds brilliantly, with a clean organ line driving the progression towards a series of "doo-doos" that wrap things up in an unexpected flurry. The four tracks that follow take this effective burst and run with it, layering fuzzy and clean guitars over each other and harnessing a high-low vocal meld to drill the melodies into your head. "Fort Worthless" is another highlight, riding a careening chorus to two and a half minutes of pop chaos. "Anatomica" seems like it might take a country route, and though it does to an extent, the track quickly evolves into a celebratory sing-along that digs down deep. If these guys set out to leave the listener wanting more, they can consider their mission accomplished.

Amazing vocal energy and sound. Spicy and great. Let it grow on you and you will not regret it.

An excellent EP from an emerging band
Anatomica is an interesting step in the progression of a talented band with indie rock roots and more experimental and diverse influences. There is no doubting their talent from earlier work, but here we see the band coming into their own in the enjoyable atmosphere of simultaneous confidence and tension that accompanies branching off from convention.

I wouldn't push the comparison too far musically, but I find them reminiscent of mid-career Modest Mouse in their edginess that manages to sound like rock but feels like malaise in the form of art, harboring wide-eyed punk sensibilities but tempered by self-conscious introspection. It's just as enjoyable a listen.

Keep an eye on this band--I suspect their follow up will further tap into a creative diversity that today's music scene desperately needs.
