Album Notes
Is it Rock? Is it Folk? Is it R&B? Is it Blues? Is it Country? Is it Funk?

Freddy Freeman is an artist who knows no genre. He blends all his influences into a rich stew of American Popular Music. Five years in the making,
Break The Silence showcases the versatility and talent of a unique singer/songwriter. With songs about the complexity of relationships,
the excitement of being young and out on the town, a nostalgic tribute to his hometown, letting go, and standing up to proclaim self worth, Break The Silence takes you along on one man’s journey of self-discovery.

His voice can be a grizzly growl shouting out in defiance or a sweet tone of plaintive intimacy. Bringing together players Freddy has worked with for years, the outstanding musicianship on this album perfectly punctuates and
further illuminates Freddy’s songs.

After spending six years developing his sound playing gigs around New York City, Freddy moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he continues to find new ways to grow and change as an artist. His music has been featured on a variety of radio programs around the country, as well as several compilation CDs.
He is a proud member of Outmusic, an international network of LGBT musicians, songwriters, and supporters. In 2004 and 2006, Freddy was nominated for Outmusician Of The Year, an award recognizing acheivement in music and community activism.

“(Freddy is) an out gay artist, deftly walking the line between being overt in his lyrics about various personal issues and experiences and ensuring that he creates universal images in his songs.” -Larry Flick, Billboard

The journey begins with breaking the silence. Until this happens, there can be no dialogue. No storytelling. No growth and no understanding. Freddy would like his audience to hear his pride, his struggle, his pain, and his
triumph. Let the journey begin. Break the Silence.

An album and an artist that keeps breaking the rules
Freddy Freeman keeps breaking the rules, and with 'Break the Silence,' his ability to deliver innovative songs and performances - wonderfully crafted with lyrics that break the rules coupled with music that is clearly from the heart, is a rarity. Socially and politically, Freeman touches on thematics that need to be heard, albeit difficult, and his voice (could he have been the unknown love child of James Taylor and Norah Jones?) brings it all home. 'Break the Silence' starts with power and intensity and keeps going - it won't drag the listener on to the battlefield, but will create change with a quiet revolution.

An album and artist that deserve your ears
Freddy Freeman has created a disc you'll treasure when you first listen and one that will create a special place in your collection when you've had the time to properly absorb it. I have been exposed to these songs for about four years now. I have heard some in rough demo form and some in polished demo form. Now they exist shined up for mass consumption (that's where you come in!) They have improved with age. Songs about home "Saratoga" which all can relate to, songs about needing to feel connected to the world in which we live "Waiting for an Echo", songs about freedom and honesty "Break the Silence" and my personal fave, Freddy's mantra and namesake song "Freeman" which is really about living up to the potential we all have. Great arrangements are there but they take a backseat to the style and listenability of the man himself. You'll not just hum these tunes, they'll become part of your life the way that the best music in your collection has. I don't know how else to tell you to buy this disc other than to say you're missing out if you don't. Click on the clips and tell me that you're not hearing a hook every 15 seconds. Click on the clips and then tell me you don't want to hear the whole song. I dare you!!!!

gorgeous voice, powerful songs
There is no weak cut on this album, every song stands out. On Break the Silence, Freddy has mastered the art of being plaintive but never self-pitying, erotic but not over the top, fun without being frivolous. And that's just the songwriting. The VOICE here will grab you. Sweet as honey, with such a range of expression and intimacy- you feel he is somehow sitting across from you, strummin that guitar and looking straight at you. Tip - listen to the disc start to finish, without skipping...while each song is a story, the disc is as well and you won't want to miss out.

Freeman Is Da Man!
Freddy Freeman takes you on a musical excursion to the depths of his soul, using poignant lyrics, captivating vocals and slick instrumental arrangements as the vehicle. Every track on the CD invites you to experience what it means to be Freddy Freeman, "perfect in his imperfection". From the anthemic "Freeman", an eponymous paean to self-acceptance, to the emotionally charged ballads "If You Don't Love Me" and "Strip Me Naked", "Letting Him Go", among others, Freeman paints a vivid portrait of himself, his life and his loves for you to reflect upon, all the while providing solid entertainment that never fails to engage the listener viscerally, time after time. His range of vocal expression is impressive, his songwriting superb, and his willingness to let you into his world make this CD an exceptional value. It's too difficult for me to pick a favorite track, since they are all so very good. However, I would say that the bonus track, which is a collection of outtakes from his recording sessions, is absolutely hilarious and at the same time hints at just how much work goes in to making a polished CD such as this one. The tracks on this CD will touch your soul, lift your spirits, and make you very glad you bought it.

Freddy Fereeman's voice shines on this beautiful and original CD
Freddy Freeman has a writing style that transcends genres. On BREAK THE SILENCE he speaks to the everyman and delivers an emotional and heartfelt wisdom that only someone who cares as deeply about his craft can. His voice is smooth and soulful and floats above folk and rock influenced chord structures. In Echo ,an incredibly catchy sing-along, Freddy sings I'm searching for signs of life in the emptiness waiting for an echo. Of course when he sings this he himself is echoing the music he has been inspired by ,like Joni Mitchell , who's song A Case Of You he covers brilliantly on the CD. On Steam he creates a metaphor for the culmination of a deep and natural love. I always feel as though I've been crying for hours when I hear this. One of my favorite songs is Free Man where he sings about finding his identity ,overcoming shame, and accepting his flaws and contradictions. The Virgo mix of the song has Freddy's mellifluous and emotional voice contrasted by electronic blips and scarce percussion which works beautifully.Break The Silence is a warm and emotional journey of finding and accepting one's self through the heart of a very gifted and mature songwriter. A must have.
