ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Freeana's debut CD, "A WOMAN'S CHANT" is in a class by itself, a MAGICAL, HEALING, PASSIONATE MUSIC appealing to those on some kind of spiritual quest or journey of sorts or self-healing of any kind. The album has often been listened to and used by holistic practitioners or workshop leaders to help create the healing space as well as by those who love to hear passionate, soulful, organically inspired music.

And don't forget to check out the NEW Freeana CD, "A CHILD'S TRUST." Click on the link to the left of this page to reach the new page. It is waiting there for you to hear!

Now back to the description of "A Woman's Chant:

The sounds on tracks such as "Tribal Woman" and "Promise of Joy" move from a serene, timeless drone to an exciting, hypnotic, trance-like, dancing peak!

The introduction to "Twilight" is extraordinary in the use of her unique, evocative, fluttering hand-whistle, like a birdsong combined with the alto recorder evoking a serene summer evening by a pond.

With training in Western, Middle-Eastern and Indian music, this most unusual and expressive vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/composer has truly presented a one-of-a-kind musical journey through a unique soundscape incorporating pulsing dumbek and percussion grooves, warm synthesizer textures and delicately ornamented melodies from her alto recorder.

Freeana's music connect the listener to a long-forgotten place within the soul
A Woman's Chant is a profoundly healing collection of original music. The primal rhythms, and vocals in Freeana's own language, connect the listener to a long-forgotten place within the soul, creating wholeness. Freeana's music resonates with a place inside the soul that has been abandonded by modern society and restores it back to life. Complex vocal arragements, combined with lush recorders and compelling rhythms, bring a piece of tribal existence back to our modern world.

This is haunting, lilting music, rhythmically compelling
Freeana's music evokes in me the deep mysterious forest of W.H. Hudson's Green Mansions. Varied, these songs draw the listener into another world of healing sounds. The blending of voices, music and original dialect is based effortlessly on keen musicianship. Rhythmically, the music is compelling. Freeana uses voice, recorder, Indian drum and dumbek to achieve haunting, lilting music complete with bird sounds (the hand-whistle) in one of her songs.

Enthralling, Beautiful and Mesmerizing
Freeana's debut CD has really captured something very unique and beautiful, yet stirring something familiar within my own heart. Her music to me comes from a deep place and her recorder playing and singing is spectacular. I look forward to hearing her next CD.

Deeply personal and original
With her exceptionally pure, clear voice used in an utterly natural way, rich and true alto recorder playing, tight dumbek playing, gentle synthesizer playing and even an atmospheric, evocative hand-whistle thrown in Freeana has created her own kind of healing, soothing music that is like nothing I have ever heard. Most notable are her use of a delay to create rich, improvised, polyphonic textures using voice or recorder and her use of lyrics which she has completely invented. There are also lilting melodies accompanied by herself on her several instruments and a guitarist/bassist (the only other musician). Although there is an element of intensity to this music some of the time, the overall feel is gentle and soothing.

Expect to hear unique and clear sounds, textures and flavors in this tantalizing music.
