Album Notes
French Admirals are an indie rock outfit from Washington, DC. The group initially formed as a "gentleman troubadour" acoustic duo project between DC music scene vets Robert France (Rob Kuczynski) on vocals/guitars and the Admiral (Mike Lashinsky) on bass. Steadily building momentum with a consistent flurry of live shows and the increased songwriting of Robert France throughout 2013, the duo eventually caved in to the desire to expand into new sonic territory, recruiting Philly native the General (Mark Kuczynski) on drums and adding electric guitars to the mix. The band headed to the studio in the Winter of 2014 to record their debut album, "Closer than Brothers" with Peter Larkin at Lighthouse studios (Del Ray, VA). The album was produced by Kuczynski/Larkin and showcases a melodic mixture of classic 90's alt rock, brit pop, jangly, atmospheric indie rock with touches of post punk, garage pop, alt country and Americana. France's reflective lyrics paired with slightly off-kilter yet accessible arrangements, subtly familiar yet distant vocal and guitar melodies, a thumping yet nuanced rhythm section and the trio's meticulous pop sensibilities are laced with hooks from all angles. The album runs the gamut from bursts of power pop to acoustic pieces while covering sonic ground in between. French Admirals perform often in DC, NOVA and Baltimore and recently embarked on an extended tour of Virginia and North Carolina. Their 2015 travels also took them through Philly twice as well as NYC. Currently, French Admirals are back in Lighthouse Studio working on the follow-up to "Closer than Brothers", which is due the first half of 2016.The group is excited to continue writing, touring and exploring new sonic territory, literally and figuratively.
