Album Notes
From Diane Donovan, Editor & Senior Review of Bookwatch, Midwest Review: " by eight talented actors and covering tales from Africa to Scotland...over 70 minutes of vivid description pack a fine gathering which will be a ‘must' for folktale collections for any age group.

From John Wood's
“Twice-told-tales never told better- the talent is first-rate from top to bottom. The stories literally jump off the CD and into the listener’s imagination – I love the choices on all levels! This is the real deal.”

From a Librarian at The American International School in Vienna:
"...Tell Me a Story is an enjoyable extension to the newspaper column that kids, parents and educators have enjoyed for years." Tracy Games McCafferty, Vienna, Austria

From Christine Gerber Rutt, Librarian, Switzerland:
“...Take it with you on vacation, give it as a gift or use it in the classroom, this one is for keeps. Highly Recommended

"...Bring this delightful CD along for a ride, or plan a once upon a time evening at home..." Bobbie Combs and Laurina Cashin, We Love Children's Books, Parents' Express Magazine.

from Amy Davis's The Lovely Mrs. Davis Tells You What To Think, November 19, 2006 and
"...When I got Tell Me A Story...earlier this month, it was a kind of breath of fresh air. As the title suggests, it's a storytelling album. But it's better than some anonymous, mellow, relaxation-tape kind of voice reading Peter Rabbit, which is what comes to mind (for me) when I think of a storytelling album...these are definitely not "bore your kids to sleep" stories...

From School Library Journal, October '06:
"...A wonderful listening experience."

I appreciate these engaging tales, clearly told and enhanced by lively music. Amy Friedman weaves age-old morals within an appealing text. I give the CD high marks. PG

My son loved it so much that he wants more!
I bought this CD to help my 10 years old son's sleeping problems.

I am not sure if it really helped him to fall asleep faster, because now he wants to listen to the whole CD at least three times at bed time, but he loves it so much that keeps asking me to buy new ones.

Thanks for your wonderful CD!

Three Generations of Love
I originally bought a copy of Tell Me a Story for my daughter (a teenager at the time) to listen to and perhaps play the CD for a couple of kids she babysat. But I decided to play it first for myself because I loved Laura Hall's work on Whose Line Is It Anyway and I wanted to give it the okay for babysitting material for toddlers.

I was blown away, not just by the production value, but by the stories and acting. I did not expect to be drawn in myself, but I was. So I handed it to my daughter, expecting to get the eye-rolling 'oh, please' look that an adult usually gets when an adult suggests to a teenager, "You should listen to this. It's pretty good." Fortunately, she was on her way to a sitting gig and took it with her...said it might be a distraction for the young-uns.

When she got home from from the job that evening, she thanked me. She said that she popped it into the CD player after snacks and sat down to listen with the kids. She said, "From the first few words, they just watched the CD player like they were watching a movie and one of them closed his eyes except between the stories. It was pretty cool. And, okay, I guess I should tell you I liked it, too."

Well, there you go -- three generations impressed in one day with one CD. Can't beat that. I bought the other CDs as soon as they were released and I am still amazed at how the people responsible for these gems have been able to rekindle the art of story-telling -- creating little movies for the mind."

My kids love all these CDs
I cannot think of a better way to pass a long family road trip than by listening to the Tell Me a Story CDs. We started with the first one--"A Sense of Theft" is now our favorite folktale, ever--and worked our way through all three. Sometimes we put it on during the carpool and the other kids will ask to sit in their driveways to hear the end of a story before going into their homes. The selection of stories is top-rate, and the readers are all entertaining and fun to listen to without ever being over-the-top. I've bought several of these CDs as gifts for friends and family with kids, and they've always loved them. Recommended for anyone with children!!

At last count, my son J had listened to the CD about 7 times (in 2 days!). Each time he goes to the play room, he hits Power & Play to listen to the stories again. Even with his favorite friend at his house playing today, he wanted to listen to Tell Me A Story. I had to sneak over to turn it off a couple of times just to be polite. It is a wonderful collection of stories that are enjoyable for children & adults which is especially important for the parents since their children will be requesting to listen to it again & again!

I laughed, I cried, I can't stop playing it. It's the most awesome CD I've ever
I laughed, I cried, I can't stop playing it. It's the most entertaining CD I've ever bought. It was supposed to be for my daughter but I find myself playing it for me and telling my daughter I'll buy her her own CD.

a perfect mix of story, music and delivery by the readers
As an adult, I did not expect to be engaged by kids stories, but I hung on every word. Then I watched a group of children listen to a story every day in a classroom setting. They were rapt and looked forward to storytime the next day. It's a great CD.

Wonderfully entertaining!
I bought this to entertain my kids while traveling, but now we're home and still listening to it (and its companion CD) daily. The stories are nicely varied and the actors' deliveries are lively. I'm really pleased with this purchase and plan to buy more to give as gifts.

I liked it!
I think that Tell Me A Story is a great CD. What I like most about it is that each story is different in some way. For instance, Sense of Theft is about a girl who is kind and generous and is accused of stealing the smells of the bakery. While the Boatmans Howling Daughter is about a loud and outgoing girl who fights pirates. Another thing I like about Tell Me A Story is the music. I think that it sets the scene for the next story. I also like that for each character the narrator uses a different voice. All in all I think Tell Me A Story is a great folk tail CD and everyone should listen to it.
