Album Notes
Listening to Jennifer Friedman’s You Are Creation might make you swear that somebody has secretly replaced her disc with a Joan Baez CD.
- Dan MacIntosh www.indie-music.com

I love REAL folk music! You have a great voice, and a
wonderful way of telling a story. Nice job!
- Chris K., Global Sound Studio

I really love your music and especially the song, Love will heal the pain.
-Carmen J. Allgood, producer of the
Colorado Wave radio program

“You Are Creation," an 11 track collection recorded by Russ Hopkins, reveals a mature purposefulness that takes on some heavy subjects such as relationships, physical abuse, war, peace and love. That Friedman’s expressive vocals are up front, underscoring the passion in the words, keeps it intensely personal while the songs themselves keep it accessible. It’s clear that Friedman believes in the power of music to transform and her album ultimately offers strength.

It’s not escaped me that Jennifer’s social consciousness plays a heartfelt leader on her folk-singer style release. Good lyrical intentions and Jennifer’s high-end opera style vocals in songs like Words and Only Child speak truthfully of her tone and deliverance home. The projects overall feeling is one of a great effort and I would be interested in seeing where her next release lands : ) Sweet and kind. I enjoyed the honesty and lyrical banter.
-Annette Warner, GoGirlsMusic.com

Jennifer is no stranger to the spotlight or big audiences, having developed in the rich artistic culture just
outside of Chicago. As a teenager, she relished performances in front of thousands singing the American &
Canadian National Anthems for the Peoria Chiefs baseball team and Peoria Rivermen hockey team. She starred
in stage productions with many noteworthy artists including Andrew Driscoll who went on to play the leading
role in the Broadway production of Miss Saigon, contemporary ballet composer, Derek Childs, and Chad Luberger who has played supporting roles in the TV series “Jag.” Now living in Colorado, Jennifer stands out as the up & coming acoustic musician of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. A combination of outstanding vocal work, reflective lyrics, and beautiful melodies highlighted by intricate guitar playing, have earned Jen a place on the must hear lists of folk fans and socially conscious people alike. Jennifer released her debut album, “You are Creation” in October 2005 and selections from the album are being played on the Colorado Wave, a syndicated radio program aired throughout the Mountain West and her song, "Creation" will be featured in an independent film called "the Garden." Jennifer has studied songwriting technique with some of the brightest national pop and folk artists including Lisa Loeb, Catie Curtis, Vance Gilbert, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, and Peter Mayer, as well as regional musicians Rebecca Folsom and Maggie Simpson. She is currently working on her second studio album and can be heard singing back-up on award winning Minnesota folk artist, Lisa Kane’s, fourth album “Armstrong Avenue.” Jennifer has performed at coffeehouses, clubs, and festivals up and down the Colorado Front Range for many years, moving audiences with her beautifully clear, melodic voice and passionate performance. It is not uncommon to find audience members struck silent in a room filled with Jennifer’s voice or moved to tears during a show. Jennifer enjoys this connection with her audience and is known for her unguarded sincerity.

Heartfully produced!
Songs that are heartfully written and performed!

Creative and touching lyrics
I felt a true kinship and love of nature and the environment when listening to the songs on this CD. The Heart Unfolding is a particularly beautiful song.

Inspirational and beautiful
I am so glad that I was able to hear this cd and the beautiful content of its songs. Jennifers words and music are uplifting, inspiring and beautiful in so many ways.

jen's first cd, you are creation, puts her best foot forward. Her lyrics are heartfelt and often tell stories, conveying her message in vivid imagery. she boldly and methodically strips away the layers of her past, revealing a sturdy yet dynamic midwestern mama with a deep concern for the future of our planet.

Grant Reefer

Such a depth and feeling that Jennifer puts into this CD. It's refreshinig to hear someone that is still communicating a message about social issues through song. This CD will challenge your own stance on issues and have you questioning the why's and how's of our society and the deterioration of morale values.

a creative work of art that bares her soul and touches others
A gentle, yet powerful sound with a voice that will make you stop and listen, and gives me goosebumps. Songs about real life, love, the environment, and experience. A very stand up, look around and embrace message. An enriching album with some solo work, warm back up vocals along with great toe-tapping rythms with the added musicians.

Serious, important, honest....I love it.
It is rare to find an artist who takes not only the music, but the intention of the music so seriously and personal. This CD is serious, personal, honest and I'm left feeling powerful, validated and cherished. How is that possible? I love the message. Favorite tracks: "he" and "creation".
