Album Notes
The Furnace Mountain Band consists of David VanDeventer on the fiddle & vocals with Morgan Morrison on the vocals & bouzouki. The band was formed in 1992, as the Furnace Mountain Boys. Since then the band has morphed and changed breaking new musical ground and forging new friendships along the way. The intention at the heart of the Furnace Mountain still remains, which is the sharing of music as a celebration of life between friends and loved ones alike.

David VanDeventer is from Purcellville, Virginia. He has played with everyone who is anyone in the bluegrass/ jamband genre of music to include Magraw Gap, David Via & the Corn Tornado, Leftover Salmon, Hypnotic Clambake and Keller Williams. Along with local bands like Less Traveled, The Woodshedders and Virginia Coalition. With Furnace Mountain David Weaves a variety of fiddle styles into the music including Appalachian,
Celtic, Jazz, and Bluegrass. If you are lucky enough you could hear one of Fiddlin' Dave original songs like Connie Chung or Fiddlin' Shifflet to name a few. A good place to find Dave is pickin' and grinning around a late night camp fire playing some music with his bluegrass buddies, teaching fiddle or violin lessons, or spending time at home with his wife Morgan and their dog Wilma in the small town of Berryville, Va.

Morgan Morrison is from Taylorstown, VA. She started playing, pickin', and singing at a young age with her very musical family. Now she mainly play's the bouzouki, mandolin and guitar. Morgan has a unique and powerful Bouzouki style, and a voice that is rich and soothing. The vocal team of Morrison and Curl has often been compared to that of Alison Krauss and Gillian Welsh. Morgan has done her share of touring as well having played at Telluride, Smilefest as well as in China, Ireland, Estonia, Latvia. Along with playing at numerous front porches, kitchens and living rooms.

Aimee Curl is from Furnace Mountain in Virginia; she plays the bass guitar (electric, acoustic & the stand up or doghouse bass) and sings like an angel. She and Morgan split the vocal duties, singing their own style of Appalachian roots folk music. Aimee can play all types of music, as was the case with her adventures with thamusement. A band from New Mexico who has toured with bands like Dave Matthews, Widespread Panic & Blues Traveler on the Horde tour. Along with Nathan Moore, Enion and David Tiller thamusement had a brand of jazzy instrumental music with Dylan like song writing and stellar vocals. With new musical explorations ahead of her Aimee has just finished recording at her own house no less the first production Furnace Mountain cd, with a little help from Dave, Morgan, Nathan and Danny.

You might also see the Furnace Mountain Band with some of our bluegrass buddies like Danny Knicely and Slinky Cobblestone. Danny is one of the finest pickers out there. He was a founding member, and the mandolin player for McGraw
Gap in the 90's. He now plays Guitar with David Via
and Corn Tornado, as well a picks just about every
instrument they put in his hands with the Dance
ensemble, footworks. He has played with many others
including Keller Williams, Acoustic Syndicate, Leftover Salmon and Larry Keel. Slinky Cobblestone is a percussion player from Virginia. He too has a long list of friends and bluegrass buddies that he has played to include LOS and Larry. Slinky is known for just that taking the slinky to places it hasn't ever been before. Furnace Mountain may also be seen with some or all of our FMBand Family members: Marty Fair guitar & vocals, David Tiller mandolin, Ericka Weshwsky accordions & mando, Zack Lester Percussion, Keith Lovett guitar, banjo, fiddle, & vocals, Tara Linheart mandolin, John Mark Power guitar, whistles, flute, & vocals . . . we just love it when these buddies come out to play with us.

So great I got two!
I was looking for a fantastic bluegrass CD for my brother-in-law's birthday, and nothing was quite right until I found this one. I love it so much I ordered two--one for him and one for me!

Tamara Turner, CD Baby

Featuring the salty sweet voice of Aimee Curl, whose distinct vocal alchemy in ThaMuseMeant has hurled her name into various pockets of folk, bluegrass and roots music, Furnace Mountain is driven by David VanDeventer on the fiddle and vocals with Morgan Morrison on the vocals and bouzouki. Together, they beget an earthy and playful yet passionate hybrid of bluegrass, folk and the slightest touch of rural country songwriting. From a Dylan cover to originals, this disc lilts with an exquisitely-human spirit of poignancy and nostalgia, joy and levity. Whether these ten tracks evoke smiles or heart pangs, there is a pronounced atmosphere of heartfelt outpouring, of songwriting so sincere and musicianship so born from the marrow of their bones that there is a special magic in the silence between the notes, pushing outwards and expanding itself in every phrase. In other words, this is an album that you feel more than you hear. Any follower of bluegrass, newgrass, folkgrass or singer/songwriter forms should not miss Shack Album.
