ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Look out Rick Braun. Move over Chris Botti. Gabriel Mark Hasselbach is a talent to be reckoned with." Joseph Bertie, The Warner Music Group.

Open Invitation has depth of style and performance, and works on so many levels, featuring the cream of the crop of contemporary jazz stars. From chart busters like Greg Manning, Bob Baldwin, Cal Harris Jr, and Rock Hendricks (Paul Hardcastle saxist), to master extrapolators like Bob Mintzer (Yellowjackets saxist) and Cory Weeds, this project rings true with heartfelt performances. Responsible for the solid music foundation is LA's studio wunderkind Lew Laing, Jr., who has a creative streak as deep as the Grand Canyon.

Gabriel is a compelling instrumental artist, a unique multi-wind player, performing and recording on trumpet, flugelhorn, C and alto flutes, valve trombone, and the Akai EVI wind instrument. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Gabriel lives and works out of Vancouver, Phoenix, and New Orleans. He has performed in Canada, the US, Mexico, Switzerland, Holland, Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines and has steadily built up a solid body of work, with over a dozen albums under his name, and many with other artists. Gabriel has worked with various music icons such as George Benson, Tom Scott, The O’Jays, Gino Vanelli, Heart, Bob James, John Lee Hooker, Long John Baldry, Jeff Lorber, Paul Brown, Little Richard, Greg Manning, Chuck Loeb, Brian Bromberg, John Denver, Powder Blues, and Marc Antoine. He also worked extensively live and in the studio with Michael Bublé, recording several albums with him, and producing his album Dream. Gabriel is a JUNO award winner and also a recipient of the West Coast Music award, a Jazz in The Park Best Instrumental Performance award, an Ampex Golden Reel award, and has several gold and platinum albums to his credit. He also received the prestigious Album of the Year and Instrumentalist of the Year awards at the Canadian Smoothies for Told Ya So. His new album Open Invitation is just being released, but the advance single from it is already hitting the Billboard charts. It also features a plethora of well known artists performing alongside Gabriel.
