In his award winning debut single, "Song for Fina", 13 year old bass phenom Gabriel Severn teams up with the multiple Emmy Award winner and Grammy Award nominated producer and guitarist Chieli Minucci, along with Special EFX members Jay Rowe on keys and Joel Rosenblatt on drums. The bossa nova “Song for Fina” began as a simple melody dedicated to a close family friend that evolved into an award-winning composition.

Gabriel is the recipient of two 2018 DownBeat Student Music Awards, one for this original composition, the other for outstanding jazz solo performance. A successful Kickstarter campaign provided him the opportunity to make this professional recording with these world-class musicians.

Gabriel was destined to hold down the low end as early as age 1, when he’d point at the bassists at concerts and festivals. As a toddler he developed an ear for Jaco Pastorius’ music, and loved listening to fusion bands such as the Yellowjackets and Weather Report. At age 7, Gabriel began private bass lessons in his hometown of Williamsport, PA, and 4 months later joined a young Motown tribute band that gained significant recognition in central Pennsylvania, performing at community events and benefits, music festivals, and making radio and TV appearances.

Gabriel received international recognition at age 11, when his video performing Jaco's solo on Havona went viral, setting the wheels in motion for a professional career. He became the first Markbass Amps Rising Star, and soon after joined the Ernie Ball Music Man family of artists. He also has a line of custom bass strings made by Carlos Pavicich in France, and endorses several other music companies.

At age 12, Gabriel gathered some of central PA's best and most promising young musicians to form his jazz fusion band, Teen Town, which has been taking audiences by storm. The band has toured throughout Pennsylvania performing at many notable festivals and events, including the 2018 Boscov's Berks Jazz Festival, the Dauphin County Wine & Jazz Festival, TEDx Harrisburg, and the Scranton Jazz Festival. They've opened for many major artists, including the Victor Wooten Trio, the Tierney Sutton Band, and the Original Drifters.

As a soloist, Gabriel performed at the Ernie Ball stage and Markbass stage at the 2018 NAMM Show, and at the 2018 Dallas International Guitar Festival. He’s been a guest with many ensembles in the past 6 years since he first began performing. Gabriel studies with Tim Breon, Anthony Wellington and Adam Nitti. He's had the honor of receiving scholarships to Victor Wooten’s Bass/Nature Camp and the Berklee College of Music’s first Groove School. He has also attended the Central PA Jazz Camp, Gerald Veasley’s Bass Bootcamp, and the Keystone Jazz Institute.
