Album Notes
I was born in Alice, Texas but I was raised in Austin / Dallas, Texas. I grew up with deep country roots, including The Louisiana Hayride, with my cousin, Charlie Russell playing steel guitar.
At the age of 3, I was told they would have to pry me away from watching Dorothy Malone and The Hit Parade on TV. I knew even then that I wanted to be a country singer.
I continued on my journey by singing on "live radio" in Eupora, MS, which took me to Nashville, TN to the record shop on Music Row where I did 3 songs live and recorded 2 of my original songs. I was invited to come backstage at the Grand Ole Opry to meet some of my favorite artists. After leaving Nashville, I returned to Austin to raise my children and became a local business owner and continued singing. In 1977, I recorded "Statue of a Fool" on our family-owned "Bevo" label ("HOOK 'EM HORNS") which was played regularly on WBAP in Ft Worth, Texas.
All my life, my Dad, Al Tumey, was my manager. He was a lead singer in the Austin area for years. He discovered a "blind whistler" from the Austin State School for the Blind who became a part of his band.
I'm thankful for my raising, my strong roots of country, and that I continue on my journey doing what I love... singing country / gospel music!
