Album Notes
Beneath The Surface by Joe and Kim Galus is a compilation CD featuring many song styles written and performed by Joe Galus with lyrics written by his wife, Kim. The CD was recording in their studio, Studio Sanctuary, with all musical tracks performed by Joe (with the exception of some drum vocal "Touch" by the couple's son, Matt Yazel, and back-up vocals by Kim.)

Joe has been a musician for over 30 years. Becoming tired of playing cover tunes, he began composing his own material three years ago and spent a year working on Beneath The Surface. Kim has been a writer for 30 years, having had some poetry and magazine articles published. The songs are diverse in style, including pop rock, new age, bluesy and some tasty instrumentals. A newspaper reviewer, Jon Rice, in the Michigan City Indiana News-Dispatch described the title track "Beneath The Surface" as having "a flavor of Neil Young and Crazy Horse featuring clean, classic Fender Stratocaster sounds and Journey-esque vocals." Kim's lyrics were described as "ringing true with her depiction of the frustration of miscommunication". "Awakenings" was credited with being "a clean, exact production with plenty of headroom". Time and Again" was compared to an Alan Parson's Project song, and"the perfect mix of mood and music" working off Joe and Kim's individual fortes. The review also noted that the CD showcases "Joe's musicianship and Kim's lyrical process with the many musical styles and moods represented" in it.

The CD was originally created to be a demo of the couple's talents as a song-writing team in hopes that other artists might be interested in performing some of the couples' more than eighty original songs. Feedback from many listeners includes comments praising the CD for the unique situation of Joe being virtually a one-man band and the feelings evoked by the songs, ranging from uplifting to exciting and mellowing to relaxing. Joe is an extremely accomplished musician as shown by his many styles and his lead, bass and keyboard performances.

A promising, heart-felt, riveting first effort from a dynamic song-writing duo
Life lessons and experience have been poured out lyrically into this soulful musical adventure that is a blend of musical styles spanning the past 3 decades; a dash of blues here, a riff of metal there, bringing a feeling of nostalgia, and longing for yesteryear, while forging ahead into the future...

I hope every performing artist will listen to the true, natural talents within this cd and be touched and inspired enough to make one of these gems his/her own.

I'm very much looking forward to the Galus' teams future endeavors!
