Album Notes
If Cupid is the messenger of love, than he has hired four capable postmen in the form of this Baltimore-based quartet. “Cupid can be a hero, a villain, or a stranger. It all depends on who those arrows hit—if he’s shooting at all—and whether or not that love is reciprocated,” says the Hearts’ vocalist, acclaimed singer/songwriter Eddie Macintosh. Well, rock and rollers, don’t let the “love” theme throw you. The songs on this record are a collection of frantic rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues romps, and hillbilly bop originals. It’s all here: The Garnet Hearts sound that has won over fans from all over the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South America is perfectly captured by the team at Another Mile Records and continues to grace radio airwaves and dancehalls worldwide.

That Hearts sound has evolved on Cupid, but the group has changed little since its inception. The core of the group is still fueled by renowned hillbilly jazz drummer Mark Pettijohn and highly sought-after session and stage bassist John (J.B.) Bozarth. The newest addition is A.S. Ladson on the hot electric guitar: with the Hearts for over a year as of this recording and was a natural fit for the group both on and off the stage.

The result of this collaboration is celebrated in ten original tracks, plus the J. Piper composition “Bonfire.” Both new tracks and songs that have been in the live show for some time (but never captured on record) were recorded with great care at The A.M. Record Ranch—where all were laid down live to capture the band’s inimitable performance energy.

You’re sure to enjoy that energy: the tracks on this disc range from wild and frantic to tender and poetic, but all are rock ‘n’ roll. So whether Cupid has helped you, hurt you, or still hasn’t found you, thank you for letting The Garnet Hearts into yours.

“[Cupid, the Hearts’ new release] confirms three things: The Garnet Hearts are a highly talented band with impeccable taste, A.S. Ladson is the perfect addition on guitar and Mark Pettijohn has to be one of the best drummers in the land... The choice is yours: buy it or... buy it.”

“Wow! Just got a copy of the GARNET HEARTS brand new disc, "Cupid" (Another Mile Records) and I can safely state that it's fantastic! Excellent second album with ten originals from Eddie and a seriously spooky-cool cover of J. Piper's "Bonfire". You WILL hear this on MOTORBILLY RADIO!!!
--DJ Del Villarreal, Detroit USA (Motorbilly Radio, Viva Las Vegas)

"I have to say the cd is f*ckin great... one of the best to come out of the U.S.A."
--DJ Gerry Robinson, United Kingdom (U.K. Rave, European Music Festivals)

“The Garnet Hearts are the real deal. Fans of the classic Sun Records sides -- Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Elvis -- should not miss them”
--The Washington Post

“An outstanding band that captures the sound and spirit of mid-50s Rockabilly, delivering with plenty of their own style and originality.”

“The Garnet Hearts have the most authentic, pure Rockabilly sound that I have heard for a long time.”

“[Mark Pettijohn] ...is a real 40's hillbilly jazz drummer--one of the best ever.”
--Dave Moore, Wild Hare Records
