Album Notes
This luthier is usually found in the shop working on guitars and other stringed instruments, but recently has emerged from the shop into the Lille Gard Studio of Andrew Smith in Kelowna to record his original songs. With the artistic expression of his friends/shop customers, who play professionally with great talent, the resulting album creates a musical journey that will get your toes tappin' and your joy lifted. Listeners comment that some tunes have a "Lightfoot" feel, while others take you floating on waves of emotion, "certain to be one of our favorites" (Patrick Keeney). With Al Hildebrand's pedal steel riffs, Dan Unger's dobro solo, Neil Fraser's jazzy riffs, Andrew Smith's rollin' banjo and melodic mandolin work, Joel Gorrie's magnificent cello, Eric Funk's percussive driving beat, Bruce Weibe's great trombone work, Graham Ord's rippin' tele, Dick Owings' fiddlin' violin, and Gary D.'s embracing vocals and acoustic rhythms, this collection of tunes has a positive energy that's always worth listening to.

Patrick Keeney

Luthier's Dream
Norris is a gifted songwriter. His melodies have a simple, direct, and mellow feel to them. Many of these songs -- for example, "Few Cards left", "Can't Stop Thinkin", "Because I Love you so" -- have catchy hooks, which immediately grab the listener, so that you'll quickly find yourself humming along. He is a witty lyricist, and there are some delightful turns of phrase. Andrew Smith produced this debut cd, which means that these tunes are all well played, neatly arranged and include lots of tasteful instrumental breaks. The overall feel is that of an eclectic collection of country/folk/rock tunes, with various shades of Dylan, Lightfoot and The Grateful Dead. A very impressive debut.

Review of Luthier's Dream by Gary Norris
Luthier’s Dream aims straight for the heart and plays and pulls at the heartstrings. True to his calling as a luthier, Gary Norris melds the individual voices of the instruments to give voice to his songs. This debut cd is a melodic feast of original, well-crafted songs that resonate with simple, direct and honest lyrics. His songs are fluid and flowing and the arrangements are multi-layered. They cocoon and envelop the listener. From hands to heart this cd finds its mark.

Luthier's Dream
We are thrilled to add our comments regarding Gary's first CD. It is a lovely, easy-listening album and we can't get enough of it. The lyrics are heartfelt, the music very strong, and the whole CD is a testament to the skill and talent of a dedicated artist. We want more!

"A Dream Come True"
This project was a dream of Gary's that started some fifty years ago. His home grown heartfelt lyrics take the listener on metaphorical journeys accompanied by highly talented instrumentalists whose own interpretations of each song have been closely captured. This is a tasteful mix of various acoustic music genres with melodies that soon become some of your favorites.
