Album Notes
A new sound for the new millennium. Dynamic, intense and passionate are just some of the words used to describe the innovative work of instrumental guitarist and composer Dominic Gaudious.

After successfully releasing two albums and touring with an eclectic rock band in the 1980's, Dominic found his passion in the contemplative world of classical/world beat music. Working mainly with six and twelve-string acoustic guitars and incorporating exotic instruments such as the Australian digeridoo, Dominic expanded on the theme and created a uniquely intricate playing style which blends the sounds of classical, jazz, Flamenco, folk, rock and world beat.

Often compared to Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke, Dominic's appealing sound has become widely sought after for festivals, benefits and college concerts. He has performed for the Race Unity Festival in Atlanta and for national and international organizations such as PETA, Greenpeace and Citizens for a Better Environment. Dominic has also performed at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, appeared with the well-respected jazz ensemble Acoustic Alchemy and world-renown guitarists such as Pierre Bensusan and Adrian Legg as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He also recently performed for the G3 (Satriani, Vai, Petrucci) after-show party at Atlanta's Tabernacle.

The Clearing

wonderful wonderful wonderful
I love this CD. I think it has amazing energy and shows great intuition about the guitar. There is always something new to listen for each time I play it.

A powerhouse of a recording....
A fantastic collection of 6 & 12 string guitar pieces. The passion and intensity is evident from the start. A powerhouse of a recording for the new millennium.

A review of the song Far East Fusion
Okay, I've been thinking long and hard about this review. I swore I would never do this. Nothing out there is perfect...well, I beg to differ. This song is as close to perfect as I will ever come into contact with. This song, this artist, IS a once in a lifetime find.
I happened to hear Mr. Gaudious play live at a Borders in Hagerstown, Maryland. I wouldn't have believed it if you had beaten me over the head with his guitar but Mr. Gaudious does not believe in overdubs. He records to be able to reproduce on stage. Like I said, I wouldn't believe it but I've seen it.
Live he plays with a didgeradoo player, on the album he has the didgeradoo and a drummer other than that its all Mr. Gaudious. Now, I've talked this review over with other reviewers and radio personnel that I have worked with in the past and I asked for help trying to figure out where to mark this song down. What was its weak point, where was it vulnerable?
After a sea of blank faces I was told, "well, you could give him a zero for lyrics?" That was the extent of the help I had. Another told me, "Maybe you could give him a 9.5 for long term appeal?" Maybe? No help at all.
The opening is intriguing and pulls you in to this world of the Far East. The speed of his playing is impressive to say the least and the build is downright exciting. After that, its all about the music. At 2:30 we come to a moment in time when all things change, a slight moment of silence hinges in the air and then we take off. The song doesn't stop from there. At 4:30 the song begins to break down the journey you've just taken. At 6:00 the song begins its descent and the journey is over, you've reached your destination at great music.
I've now listened to Far East Fusion well over twenty times(four prior to writing and its playing now) and its long term appeal is there. The sound is there...the beat is dead on...the guitar is flawless...I have been reviewing for Gods of Music for a year now and have come close to giving out a 10 before but never actually did it.
I know I'll get raked over the coals for this one but I'm gonna go with it, to me this is as close to perfect as I will ever hear. Keep in mind, reviews are subjective. Read my bio, read my other reviews and you'll get a good feel for my tastes...if we agree on flavors then you HAVE to, without hesitation, go to play this song. If you don't like my tastes then move on and chalk this up to the fact that it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

CD Baby

If Michael Hedges (rest his soul) traveled to Australia, Ireland, and Scotland and kidnapped a didgeridoo player, an Uillean piper and snare drummer, then formed an ensemble so mind-blowing that the kidnappees willingly stayed, this would be even better. This dynamic blend of fingerstyle guitar with world elements will stir up a storm so hold on to your frets. (This transcends boundaries of folk, rock, new age and world... so pardon us for having to slice it up into "easy listening.")

Passion at its finest.......
This album is just one of his three that demonstrates passion at its finest. The music takes you to another place when you listen to it.....a place that allows you, for just a moment, to escape the craziness of life...to find peace...I love it! And to see Dominic in concert, playing these songs, with the same intensity and passion you hear in the recordings is amazing....some of the most powerful 6 & 12 string playing I have ever seen!!!!

Dominic's music is priceless! The Clearing takes you to so many different styles & places! You can take a trip to another country w/your imagination & while listening to this cd & not even have to leave your own house! When I first saw Dominic play the songs from this cd live, I was speechless! It was fascinating watching all the notes from this cd come to life at the hands of one man! My advice would be to buy the cd & see Dominic live! It was the best decision that I ever made! Take Care :)

The Clearing is the best guitar-playing I have ever heard in my life!
The Clearing is an electic compilation of Dominic's professional, stimulating style of guitar-playing.It makes me want to laugh, cry, take a nap and belly-dance-sometimes all in the same song!

A journey to everywhere!
This was my first Dominic CD. I fell in love at Far East Fusion. I love the whole thing, but other special favorites are Slap Me and Dance Reilly (a wonderful celebration - I'd love to meet that parrot!) Dominic takes you everywhere. If you get the chance to see him live, DON'T MISS HIM!

The clearing
I heard Dominic perform at an arts festival and thoroughly enjoyed his music. This album is wonderful. I enjoy the songs but also how the album is arranged with its variety of selections. Fast, slow, each song is just enough different for you to appreciate Dominic's wide range of selections to please everyone and to admire his versatility.
