ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Over the past few years,
Gavin Mendonca has developed a great appreciation for his native culture and Folklore.
Guyana, the only English speaking country in South America, and part of the Caribbean Community, has a unique and diverse blend of culture, inclusive of East Indian and African roots, as well as rich Indigenous Heritage.

After taking up with Marlon 'Chucky' Adams, who does African Spiritual Drumming, the pair discovered some of El Dorado's treasure in the form of a book which contains the music and lyrcis of 100 Guyanese Folk Songs.

Their mission is now contribute to the preservation of these ancient and culturally significant folk songs that tell the tales of the lives of our Ancestors.

They plan to record all 100 songs in a series of albums, this being the very first volume.

Guyana's Folk Song are bright, upbeat and melodic and inspire a feeling of community and love. It is meant to be sung all together, clapping and dancing to the rhythm of the drums and strumming of the guitar.
