Mountains

by Gaye Albright -Rock

Naked songwriting, strong on melody and harmony. A combination of the crisp clarity of Joni Mitchell and the heartfelt true-life emotion of Billy Joel, the music is keyboard-infused soft rock accompanied by guitar, percussion, bass, and mandolin.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Many people asked me why I was making this CD. Apart from the fact that music is its own reward, I would have to say that although I have no(human)children (plenty of 4- leggers), I now have a living, breathing entity with my signature on it. I was very ill and feared that I would die(isn't that dramatic). I was given Hope/A New Day by the Holy Spirit in the midst of the illness and that got me thinking about putting my music into concrete form. Over the course of a year and a half my faith in God and the telling of these stories made me well. That being said, the music in this CD is geared toward people with a bit of living behind them. You won't find a single 'ooh baby' song in the bunch. Instead, a collection of life experiences spanning 20 years. Song writing is therapy, and some experiences are chronicled here - divorce, death , civil liberty and Spirit love.

Different (and Great!)
I honestly love every song on Gaye Albright-Rock's "Mountains," and I sometimes listen to the entire CD a few times in a row because the songs are different from what I normally listen to -- and different from each other!

Rock's songs are catchy, haunting, jazzy, and beautiful – and they contain poignant musical lines and unforgettable lyrics -- all of which I can discern. For example, the jazzy "True Love is Fiction" is followed by the more contemplative "Further Away" and then, a little later, the haunting and expressive "Freedom." And the rest of the songs follow suit in that they're all different, both musically and thematically.

Rock's clear, light voice, while reminiscent of Judy Collins', is more appealing, soothing, and comforting, so immediately after I've listened to this album, one or two songs invariably remain with me for a while.

And in addition to composing all of the lyrics and music for this CD, Rock provides almost all of the vocals and plays the keyboard.

What keeps me interested in looking at a painting is that I see something different every time I look at it; what keeps me interested in this CD is that I hear something different every time I listen to it -- which is how I know I will listen to this CD for many years to come.
