ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Alto Saxophonist/Producer G-Clef da Mad Komposa brings his innovative touch for a new generation in 2018 with a soulfully creative album of jazz saxophone covers of contemporary rap music. Songs were selected for their mood and melodic content, particularly those that lend themselves to a modern jazz interpretation. The material draws from a variety of artists such as Rae Sremmurd, A-Boogie wit da Hoodie, Trippie Redd, XXXTentacion, Lil Uzi Vert, Juice WRLD, and Post Malone, and reflects a fresh and up-to-date conception, rather than some out of touch snobbery, just to cash in on tending music. Produced and performed exclusively by G-Clef himself on Alto Saxophone, as well as keyboards and programming. These versions are at once artistic renderings, rather than the typical imitative or genre-bending styles of covering hit songs. This is a complete re-imagination by a seasoned jazz musician and hip-hop producer, with credits ranging from Illinois Jacquet to Wu-Tang. G-Clef considers this the direction millennial jazz must go in, for it to survive and flourish. He states, “The reinterpretation of modern pop songs are what birthed jazz music in the first place and kept it relevant and successful!”
