Album Notes
Geist - Info

Everything but ordinary.

Far from the usual trodden paths of repetitive musical journeys, Geist have proven time again with a demanding, complex yet emotional sound – they can create their own way.

With a distinct and powerful voice, German lyrics are projected bravely and almost unbearably clear. Gripping, almost hypnotic. An unmistakably laconic Bass, raw Guitar and stacked Rhythm. Geist are four exceptional musicians, who are stirring their abilities to boiling point with utterly thrilling songs.

A style, hard to match, is born. A crazy fusion of Tool meeting Heppner & Vedder on vocals. Guitar waves persuaded by the likes of Monster Magnet and System Of A Down spiral in and out of control, with a touch of psychedelic. Despite all their influences, Geist have managed to remain true to themselves. This is real music.

Music that wanders through your stomach into your head.

Definite must have
Thanks to Radio Goethe for turning me on to this one ! I love the whole German rock thing and am always looking for something new, when I heard the comparisons to Tool, Audioslave, System of a Down, I knew I had to check it out. The whole album is a journey. The opening track gets you hooked with a powerful rhythm and great vocals and just continues. Instead of playing 300 beats per minute and screaming at you, Geist takes you on this pink flloydish trip through the macabre. Powerful and yet mind altering.

My newest favorite
Living in Seattle, Geist\'s sound is familiar and reassuring. However they have done a fantastic job of taking all the best parts of post-grunge and modern hard rock and have turned it into an infectious blend not easily dismissed. Even after the first listen, I felt I couldn\'t get enough and had to hear it again immediately. This is a great soundtrack for driving, snowboarding or bike riding. A must have!

A highlight of releases
Last night I was driving through the Los Padres Hills in Southern California, on a windy rode through one of the most beautiful areas in California. And of course I needed some great music along the way. I picked this CD by Geist, for me one of the best German-language releases in a while. You will ask why and the answer is not easy. But I will try...This album has a darker undertone, think about the soundtrack of an apocalyptic movie sequence or the music of a nightly drive through a metropolitan area. It is a highly powerful release, dramatic climaxes, a voice that hits the right spot in me. The lyrics (if you can understand them) are great. And all instruments come at one point or another to the forefront of a song. But it's not a wild masturbating on it, it's an opening of the song. Geist have created an album that is mindblowing. If you need comparisons, try Tool meets System of a Down combined with the German band Die Juenger and a voice that reminds me sometimes of Eddie Vedder. It's not very often that you get a record that is amazing from the beginning to the end. This is a band to keep an eye on. They are released on Danse Macabre Records, the label of Das Ich.
As host of Radio Goethe, a syndicated radioshow featuring bands from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, I knew the band before this CD came out. They got me already hooked with their demo, but the full length album is even better, stronger and more powerful. I highly recommend Geist to anyone who likes a "Brett", the harder and harsher sounds, but not so much straight forward, more with edges and darker alleys to explore.
I'm sure you will enjoy it.
