Album Notes
In Gene Casey's musical landscape all forms of classic "Americana" pop co-exist in rich harmony: Elvis Presley jams with the Sir Douglas Quintet, Johnny Cash croons with the Beach Boys, and Chuck Berry is backed by Phil Spector's Wall of Sound. "It's one big sweet and sour mash," is how the singer-writer-guitarist puts it. Or as author and musician Josh Alan Friedman writes, "Gene's low baritone vocals are his strongest weapon, his voice a picture-book blend between Ernest Tubb and Ronnie Spector. With a subtle hint of Lennon. Maybe he was born with golden pipes."

"Guitar in the Rain" is the third installment of what Gene calls "an unofficial trilogy" of original albums (the others being 2008's "What Happened" and 2012's "Untrained" recorded with his beloved band, the Lone Sharks), all featuring a mix of rockers, ballads and out-and-out "pure pop" that celebrates classic song forms while offering a unique take on the eternal conflicts and themes that fuel the best, most timeless rock and roll.

Gene's mastery of roots music has resulted in his songs being used on the soundtrack to several TV shows and feature films, including "Sons of Anarchy," "Justified" and Rob Reiner's "Being Charlie".

"Playing in bars and clubs for so long, " Gene offers, "Has taught me a little about what makes the classics hold up. My aim has been to write songs that can stand alongside the great tunes I love so much." With "Guitar in the Rain" Gene Casey has done just that.
