ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Cowichan Valley based Genevieve Charbonneau is a prolific singer-songwriter whose homesteading experiences have provided her with ample material for songs. Her music is rooted in folk and old-time country and is at once timely and timeless. She incorporates bluegrass rhythms, traditional folk, Americana and pop into her style. As a theatre major, trained dancer and long-time member of the Balkan Babes , she is an experienced singer and performer, bringing a lively stage presence and energy to the stage. The Balkan Babes, an all-women vocal ensemble who sing folk music from the Balkan region, have two full-length albums, "Divna" and "Volio".
Genevieve's adventurous life has certainly influenced her songwriting. After (mostly) completing her BFA in Theatre, she embarked on a 9 month van trip through Mexico, until hired onto a private yacht which was beginning it's circumnavigation of the world. She and her partner Daniel spent 2 years in various exotic ports until the boat returned to North America. They returned to Canada's west coast pregnant with their first son and intent on settling and building a house. In 2006 Genevieve moved with her young family onto 10 acres of bare land and proceeded to build a beautiful eco-homestead over the next 6 years. The homes on the land are built of earth, timber frame and plaster, and they have extensive gardens and chickens. Twisted Vine Farm hosts multiple musical events and house concerts every year, and the lovely people who live on Twisted Vine believe in the good life: gourmet food and wine, music and arts, community and involvement, health and respect for the earth. Love, joy and gratitude.
Genevieve took up songwriting after seeing a local bluegrass showcase and thinking "I can do that". In 2013 she graduated from the campfire to the stage, bringing her songs, stories and joix de vivre to a wider audience. She started the band "Genevieve and the Wild Sundays" a quartet of women (guitar, stand-up bass, mandolin and percussion) who bring her songs to life with soaring three part harmonies and intricate arrangements.
In January 2014 Genevieve went into the studio with Marc Atkinson on Hornby Island to record her first full length album “Updraft”. Marc is a talented West Coast musician, founding member of The Bills and The Marc Atkinson Trio. He has recently delved into producing and recording in his beautiful Barn Studio on Hornby Island.
Response to Genevieve's music has been immediate and overwhelming: at one of her first house concerts with her band The Wild Sundays, an attendee wrote: “a great show- like usual my body couldn’t decide how to react to the sound of your music: sprinkle water from my eyes (cry), from my armpits (sweat) …or just send tingles down my spine and break out in goose bumps …Think I did it all. Honestly, this is a good music review – a full body experience!” — Ilse Sarady, Cowichan
