ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album is soulful, funny, clever, intellectual, rebellious, & fun at the same time. While the lyrics touch on technology, morality, modern dating, government over-reach, conspiracy theory, Science Fiction & human redemption, it does so with a playful sense of humor & a large dose of not taking itself too seriously. It's a mix of 80's pop, soulful melodies, Old School Hip Hop syncopated beats & flashes of influence from Pink Floyd, Queen, Prince, Tom Petty & Hall & Oates. The album was also influenced by Stranger Things, Alternative Media, & a search for deeper truth in a world gone crazy! There's also a little bit of George Orwell's cautionary tale "1984" woven into the lyrics. Geoff Byrd goes from uptempo pop to edgy rock, to contemplative singer songwriter to A cappella Doo-Wop effortlessly & without being too eclectic. Modern, clever, & edgy lyrics with powerful, soaring pop melodies & Hip Hop beats, Deep Black is clearly Geoff Byrd's best since his award winning album "Shrinking Violets." Byrd plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals and harmonies. More like the concept albums of the 60's, 70's & 80's but with a totally modern lyrical approach.
