Album Notes
Geoff (cornet, trombone, tuba, vocals) is one of Australia’s finest young Traditional Jazz musicians, having played with musicians of the calibre of Bob Barnard, Tom Baker, James Morrison, The New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra and many others. He has appeared as a featured soloist at festivals and jazz clubs throughout Australia, Europe and the USA. His debut CD, “Aspects Of Power’, was nominated for an Australian Recording Industry Award (ARIA) in 2000 under the “Best Jazz Album” category.
Jack Wiard (clarinet, soprano saxophone) hails from Lodi, California and studied and played in San Francisco for a few years, but has lived in Sydney since 1972. His vast experience in music includes playing with Pops Foster, Joe Sullivan, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and various Kid Ory and Turk Murphy alumni, but in Australia Jack is best known for his for his 30-year association with the Graeme Bell All-Stars. A popular attraction on the festival circuit, Jack appears as a featured soloist with numerous bands and also leads his own group, the “Riverside Roustabouts”
Paul Baker ( banjo, vocals) is one of Australia’s finest banjoists and has played with some of Australia’s finest jazz bands, including Paul Furniss’ San Francisco Jazz Band and toured China with Graeme Bell’s All-Stars.
Jim Elliott ( bass saxophone ) is originally from Melbourne and has played with many of Australia’s finest jazz bands, including the New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra, Graeme Bell, etc. Although Jim is proficient on many instruments, including trombone, clarinet, flute and piano, his real passion in life is his 1951 AJS motorcycle !
This band was originally formed to play material in the West Coast Revival style ( eg. Lu Watters, Turk Murphy, etc. ) but given the versatility of the players, it was inevitable the repertoire should broaden to include Bix, Louis Armstrong Hot 5 & 7, Jelly Roll Morton, early Ellington, etc.
