One song worth the price of admission.
Gerald's version of Sleepwalk is "to die for". This one song is alone worth the price of admission!

The variety, the style and the evident skill are amazing!
This is a wonderful CD. The variety, the style and the evident skill are amazing. Gerald has such a touch across so many kinds of music and brings such life to the ukulele. The rhythms, the varying strumming styles, the SWING....all really amazing.

As an intermediate student of the instrument I want to say that this CD is an inspiration. I know how hard it can be to coax a variety of sounds out of the instrument and Gerald does it so seemingly! effortlessly.

Wonderful!
What impresses me about Mr. Ross is that the instrument he is playing is irrelevant, although I am in love with the uke and the things it can do. The music is in this man and will come out regardless of the medium used. It just so happens the tool he is using is the ukulele.

If you are interested in taking your playing to the next level, then this CD is must have to your collection.

One can only hope that Mr. Ross will be contacted by Homespun or Guitar Workshop to make a teaching DVD, which I would purchase in a second!

Great stuff!
I recently attended the 2014 Reno Ukulele Festival and stumbled upon Gerald Ross's workshop. The information he presented and his charming personality quickly won me over & I bought this CD on the spot. I second all the praise other reviewers have offered here. It's top-notch.

Guitar hits creatively re-imagined for the uke and Hawaiian Steel Guitar
I first discovered ukeist Ross from a track that was on an Acoustic Radio DJ Sampler. I'm a huge ukulele fan - whether it be the 20s style of Ian Whitcomb, the amazing jazz improves of Jake Shimabukuro and, yes, even Eddie Vedder (who plays amazingly well on his new solo uke CD). So I wanted to hear the whole CD as well as his other releases. While all are a delight to listen to, this one is , by far, my favorite.

Ross takes pop hits from the 50s, and 60s and rearranges them for uke or Hawaiian steel guitar. (It would be too confusing to title the album " Ukulele and Hawaiian Steel Guitar Hit Parade!). There rock and roll, like the Beach Boys' "California Girls", 50s pop orchestral pieces (Hugo Winterhalter's "Canadian Sunset") and even a GUITAR standard Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk") which sounds like it was handcrafted for Ross' fingers. Another well-known GUITAR piece, Jordan Ingman's "Apache" makes the change beautifully as well. Even a tune that - in it's original form - makes me cringe (Bob Crewe's "Music to Watch Girls By"), is fun to hear.

Check out some samples to get an idea of Ross' arrangements and playing technique and decide for yourself. I know I'm now a fan. If you are a uke lover too, I think you will be also.

What a find!
I am not quit sure how I found this but it is one of the more outstanding things I have heard in years. I was explaining to a girlfriend of mine what I meant by "musical." I am thinking that I mean "lyrical" to a degree but it is combined with humor, sadness and drive that belongs to music alone. I find this CD musical in that sense. Playful, real swing drive, lyrical (you can almost hear the songs being sung on the heads, something I did not expect from a ukelele). It will probably improve your mood when you listen to it.

Attention all music lovers
I have recently joined the ukulele revolution. I purchased my first uke and have been watching as many youtube tutorials as I can. My favorite player/instructor by far is Gerald Ross. I'm a jazz lover and had tears in my eyes when I first heard his recordings. I ordered this CD from him and sent him a THANK YOU note to let him know how much I enjoyed his music. He wrote me back almost immediately and we became friends. He has a special love for music and loves what he does...and it shows. I am so fortunate to be his friend...I DIG PROFESSIONALISM!
It's hard to pick a favorite song on this CD...they are ALL just beautiful. What a deal this CD is...it will be shipped immediately and you'll be in jazz heaven with a very talented artist. BUY THIS CD, I guarantee you'll listen to it often.
