Perlilous Lizards

by Ggreg Snyder

This is an original album of alt.country songs. Though the overall sound is unmistakably country-western, elements of ska, metal, r&b and Broadway combine to make a fusion that no one really asked for.

Album Notes
This is Ggreg (sic) Snyder's second album, following up his debut "Vittles For Thought." It is a fusion of diverse styles, combined into a general heading of alt.country. Ggreg's unmistakably country-western vocal stylings are combined with elements of ska, r&b, metal, Broadway and bluegrass to create a fusion of sounds that somehow come together. The single "She's Not You" was praised by bandcampdiaries for its "directness and authenticity." While the single was PG, a more grown-up version of the song is featured on the album. Songs like "Sticking To Her Plan (The Lot Lizard Song)" illustrate Ggreg's eagerness to address social issues in a way that is both frank and whimsical. "Valencia, Spain" opens the album with a pleasant travelogue, while "Irish Goodbye" closes it with a heartbreakingly beautiful ballad. In then middle of it all, there is a five song cycle of songs called "The Perilz," which Andrew Shackley of the Antelope Valley Times called "cynical and frustrated," which Ggreg strangely accepted as a compliment.

Featured on the album are Robert Heft, who engineered and mixed, as well a providing the bulk of the lead guitar and bass guitar work; Mike Tempo of the Bonedaddys on drums and percussion; William Stewart on violin; Artem Zhulev on Saxophone; Toby Wilson on dobro and banjo, and many others.
