ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
These artists, from all over the world, were brought together by their love of the music of Gentle Giant. The degree of Gentle Giant's influence varies. All these authors are members of the On-Reflection (more info here: http://www.blazemonger.com/GG/onreflection.html) internet list. It was there that the idea for such an album was born, and this is the second project. This is the first of a 2 disc set (sold separately), and the second disc will be released around June-July 2006. We sent each member of Gentle Giant a copy so that they could see how their music altered our musical minds! The profits from the sale of these albums benefit the band and list, allowing the musicians who performed this music to remain poor. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we did writing and playing!

Andy Kubicki

PS It has been a privilege to work with these great musicians. I'm very excited about bringing this project out beyond the boundaries of On Reflection to any prog lovers in the world who happen to find this while searching. These are high quality professionally duplicated CDRs and the project was mastered professionally at Studio McBuddha by Dan Bornemark. Cover art by Nick Haus.

Head Doctor

Just the medicine I needed
I didn't know what to expect from this album. I've heard other a fan based tribute CDs but this is something different. These folk have found their muse in the music of Gentle Giant and taken it to another place. This isn't a clone like Starcastle was of Yes but a bunch of disparate offshoots of inspiration and playing styles, that are original in every way yet use an aspect of what they have learnt to create new music.

GG had all kinds of things going on - there was Folk, Classical, Rock, Jazz, RnB, Early music and the artists on this CD have used those influences in their tunes.

I listen to music when I'm working and with this one I keep having to down tools and go over to the CD cover and see which track is playing as I find something interesting in each one. I don't know who all these names are but if I met them I'd shake their hands and say 'Well done!' Well worth the price.

I might have done it backwards...but...these folks sure didn't.
O.K. O.K. So I bought 'Giant For ANOTHER Hour' first. Like I knew any better at the time. This is the one that blazed the trail and sets the standards for HOW to do a TRIBUTE album...no matter who the intended 'tributee' happens to be. The care, precision and ultimate musicianship contained herein [and on the follow-up] is almost unparalleled.
I'd rank these right up there with the Easy Star All Stars 'DUB Side of the Moon' as the 3 best tribute albums of all time.
Even if you have NO clue as to who Gentle Giant is...you'll really appreciate THIS collection of outstanding performances/songs. I might have done it backwards...but...these folks sure didn't.

Very creative way of taking great influences a step or two further
I hear some great rock and jazz fusion legacy behind it,ap-
plied in a very personal and individual way, which makes it
unique & original;kept wonderfully in GG's climate but reaching beyond GG's horizons & experience.Great writing,
orchestration & execution:>)Very tight, very proffesional &
very, very consistent. Not for everybody - for elite listeners only.AQUIRING THE TASTE for it is a must - but...
OH MY GOD!!! - IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!It is not very hard for good musicians to copy others, but to learn from them, and then convert this knowledge and experience to create something as unique and innovative as your work, that's a different story. AWESOME WORK GUYS!
God bless you and keep writing and playing!

Love it!
I'm a producer/emcee of the prog-hop group "The Longfellow Project" (also on CDbaby) and I've been listening to Gentle Giant for the past 11-12 years. I just bought the MP3's to both volumes of "Giant for an Hour" and I'm loving it!
It's genius these artists didn't go the straight cover route, and instead came up with original tunes inspired by GG.
Fantastic music!
