Album Notes
Gil Clark is a singer/songwriter from the small town of Petoskey in Northern Michigan. He played his first gigs as a young teenager up where the snow gets deep. "But my mom's from North Carolina and sometimes my Southern roots show", says Gil. While attending Wayne State University in Detroit, Gil became involved in the thriving artistic community. He appeared regularly at the clubs in the area such as Alvin's, The Old Miami, Fourth Street, The Latin Quarter and The Community Concert Series. It was during this period that he formed a musical partnership with the late Rob Tyner of the MC5. Of the relationship Gil says "Rob was my friend, manager and mentor. We played a lot of shows together. Rob opened doors for me and took me places that I never would have seen without him. One of the perks of working with Rob, was that I met all the famous rockers who would come to see him perform." The fruits of their musical partnership can be heard on Gil's recording of his original song "Round and Round". Rob played harmonica on the track. Gil returned the favor by singing backing vocals on the Rob Tyner release "Blood Brothers". Gil has several other recordings to his credit including "Singin' Songs" which has been reissued on CD.To date, he has recorded more than fifty original compositions. During the tour to support his album "Singin' Songs" he supported Country Joe McDonald in his Midwestern appearances. Gil says of the experience, "It was fantastic to meet and play with Country Joe. I am a big fan and he is one of my musical influences. I listened to the live side of his Essential album on Vanguard Records all the time and then to be a part of something that I had known through recordings was mind boggling for me. Once, after a gig I brought Joe to my house and introduced him to my brother. That was a great laugh because my brother Greg was sleeping on the couch and I woke him up at about 7am when Joe and I came rolling in. Greg couldn't believe it, he thought he was dreaming. Greg returned the favor by giving a copy of my album Singin' Songs to Townes Van Zandt when we went to see him one time. The next time I saw Townes he told me he listened to it all the way to Oklahoma. That is one of the nicest compliments I have ever received. I still play a number of Townes' tunes in my live performances". Gil plays Solo acoustic sets of his songs as well as covers by his favorite artists. He also plays and records with his own band. He can be heard doing a live set of his original songs on the cassette release "Live at the Rhythm Room". "I loved playing the Rhythm Room and so after it closed I assembled a selection of original compositions from DAT recordings that we had made over the course of dozens of gigs. It think it came out really well."

In June of 1999, Gil traveled to Nashville and recorded his latest CD, Ridin' On with an all-star lineup.
