ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The concept of 'feeding your soul' seems easy. The older I got, the more life seemed to become a rollercoaster. The heavier it was as the years went on, the more serious I realized I was becoming. What happened to when I felt like I could be goofy? Make a fool out of myself and believe in who I was? When did I start faking it so that I could be accepted, or just like everybody else?

I’ve been singing my whole life, but my creative spark started by singing L.O.V.E. at Six Flags at 5 years old in front of an audience and getting the role of Belle in 5th grade at a brand new school. The longer I continued with the musical theatre journey and the older I got, I often felt brought down feeling like (and being told) that I wasn’t good enough, so I shot that dream down. I later picked up ukulele during college and fell in love with the instrument. I was gifted a beautiful baby Martin for graduation, and couldn’t put it down. I tossed it up to a hobby I didn’t want to share, which was really just an excuse of being afraid to put myself out there. I then drifted into the world of entertainment, worked in movie marketing, and fell in love with the creative thinking process. Having a bird's eye view of the glitz and glam was fun, but I didn't feel as fulfilled I knew I was able to feel in the past. As fate heard me, I left the job for an opportunity to start a program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them to find their passions and interests.

That's really when it clicked, the feeling I had forgotten I had in something completely new. The dreams that disappeared were creeping back. It was no longer my breath being taken away by scenic views, fleeting performances, or romantic gestures…but by everyday moments. I started to really make something out of all the notes I had titled “songwriting ideas.” I continue to be overwhelmingly inspired by the beauty, spirits, and innocence they hold. Their willingness to accept any human in any form without judgment, and raw honesty by nature. Many of these people have shown me what it means to appreciate the smallest things in life, reminding me what it felt like to believe in myself, fight through pain, and turn it into something remarkable. I'm thankful to have gotten a glimpse into this outlook, and I've had too many signs pointing me to the direction of sharing the writing that has come straight from my soul, onto the page, and through my guitar with you.

These past three years have been a whirlwind with so many emotions and journeys I can’t possibly fit onto one page, but you’ll hear it all as this music comes out into the world. I hope you love it as much as I've loved creating it, and I hope it inspires you to do whatever it is that makes you light up inside, helps your heart to sing, and simply…feeds your soul. Follow whatever it is, I promise it’s worth it.

xx,
Gillian Krystal
