Album Notes
This is the first CD to emerge from the collaboration of New York singer songwriters Aaron Gilmartin and Dorothy Potter, the creative forces behind The GilmartinPotter Band.

"Just Before Rising" was recorded at the historic EMI studios in Cologne, Germany in March 2007 with the help of German producer and engineer Uwe Sabirowsky (The Beat Steaks, Agent of Orange) on the same Neve 24/8 console used to record ABBA's hit records at Stockholm’s Metronome Studios in the 70s. Top German drummer Alex Vesper (DJ Bobo, Ismael Diallo, etc.) created the vibrant drum track for the album, a tour de force of dynamics and texture, at his drum studio in Cologne.

Gilmartin and Potter wrote the songs for “Just Before Rising” while touring in Europe and Scandinavia from 2004-2007. There is an unmistakable air of loneliness and anger on many of these tracks (e.g., Taking Back the World, I Learn Alone) which is offset by the positive, hopeful vibe of such songs as the title track "Rising" and the lush ballad, "Digging for Bones". The CD offers a broad scope of emotions and musical feels while still offering a sound that is unified by the group’s distinctive vocal arrangements and Gilmartin’s Latin influenced guitar style.

About "Digging for Bones." The song really haunted me after repeated listenings. It immediately hooks you with some heartfelt, evocative lyrics and some really nice chord changes. The thing that really struck me about it was your vocals; very personal, direct and emotional. While listening to the song I felt as if you were singing only to me and not just at a faceless listener. Extremely well done... I'm not a musician... but the song definitely deserves airplay...I really hope it's a breakthrough for you.
