Album Notes
Gina Roche, composer, jazz vocalist and guitarist, is happy to celebrate the release of her second CD, "Thankfully," a personal CD of original compositions.
These compositions were inspired by experiences in my life over the past few years. Starting with the title track "Thankfully", a composition inspired by my husband John and his loving kindness with our daughters, to the song "Flying" a song written during a family intervention with my brother, about what my family went through, how it affected my mom, my brother. I am happy to report he is doing well and working to help others in recovery. There is a sweet, funny song "Breakfast in Bed" about the challenges of romance while having children (who like to get up too early in the morning!), to the song "Be The Change" this one touches on how even though life can become hectic, busy & frustrating at times, I am finding out that letting go of my past grievances & forgiving (myself & others) helps me make a difference of kindness in the world. --- Inspired by the Gandhi quote to "be the change you wish to see in the world" and the book The Law of Forgiveness by Connie Domino.

This is a CD of Thanks, Courage & Inspiration.

I am counting my blessings, every single one.

Thank you for purchasing my CD. It comes from my heart. peace, gina

What an accomplishment. This is such a wonderful, exciting album. I am most surely wearing it out. Every time I play it , I think, 'this is my favorite song' but then when I play it again I think, 'no this is my favorite song from the album' Guess what? they are all excellent. That rich beautiful voice of Gina's we know so well, and her musicians, is the ultimate combination. The songs depict a little part of her life. Give yourself a gift of love and buy this album. It is inspiring!

I have been a long time fan of Gina Roche and always enjoy her live performances. I have played her first CD from coffee houses to dinner parties and it is appropriate for any occasion. Thankfully is even better. After just 2 listenings, the songs become like old, familiar friends. It is crafted with true professionalism and to know the lyrics come from the stories of the artist make me feel so connected. Thanks for this masterpiece!

Gina Roche - Thankfully
I first came across the music of Gina Roché many years ago while surfing CD Baby for independent jazz/bossa nova music. Her 2001 release DAWNING OF A NEW DAY was like a breath of fresh air, featuring Gina’s rich, breezy vocals and precise acoustic guitar work. The production had a refined simplicity to it. The album hit that chill vibe and was still distinctive because of the beautifully nuanced performances.
In the years since the first CD, Gina has continued writing and playing live while also enjoying her blossoming family. People like myself waited patiently for more music…
Well, the wait came to an end with the late 2011 arrival of her new collection of songs entitled THANKFULLY. The thread from the previous disc is there but with an even deeper artistic connection to themes within the new compositions. The music contains an ingenuous beauty and grace that makes the journey the songs take you on one you’ll want to infinitely repeat. The CD’s title track “Thankfully” celebrates the love and devotion of family life and expresses gratitude for something so easily taken for granted. “As I Am” has a great message within the bouncy time signature imploring listeners to “Live true, live strong, be free, make no apology”... The intimate recording of this CD with its upright acoustic bass/drums rhythm section, acoustic piano and nylon string guitar foundation brings a warmth and honesty to the compositions. The track “Choose Love” has that classic bossa nova feel with Gina’s melodic vocals offering an invitation to ecstasy. Other favorites are “Be The Change” featuring a very cool spoken word bridge from LOreal Crisp Seels, the suburban, married w/kids sequel to Peggy Lee’s “Fever” called “Breakfast In Bed” and the plaintive beauty of “Flying”.
All of the songs were written and produced by Gina Roché except “My Father’s Love” (written w/Barry Sames) and “Love Will Arrive” (written w/Barry Miles). Additional musicians delivering fantastic performances include Ricardo Vogt on guitar, Randy Porter on piano, Nilson Matta & Tim Lekan on acoustic bass, Keith Hollis & Allison Miller on drums, Tony Miceli on vibes, George Mesterhazy on accordion and Owen Sczerba on baritone sax.
The elegant performances throughout THANKFULLY reflect someone who has fully come into her own as an artist. If you love an authentic jazz/bossa sound, you’ll be happy to immerse yourself into this relaxing collection.
