ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ginny Mitchell's newest CD is packed with Americana/Folk gems. With self-penned tunes "Miss you Boy" and "Ed and Alice" Ginny establishes herself as a talented songwriter as well as the award winning singer we've known her to be.

She is joined on this CD by Nina Gerber on Guitar, John Knowles (Chet Atkins favorite guitar player), Tiran Porter on bass (Doobie Brothers fame) and Barry Phillips on cello (George Harrison). This is a departure from a country/bluegrass project, because Ginny stretches out to include rock favorites by the Cure and the Rolling Stones (although this is done in bluegrass styling). She also includes quiet versions of jazz standards, "Stardust" and "Wish Upon a Star". Take a listen and you will hear for yourself!

Ginny began her career in Canada placing five hits into Canada's top 40 shortly after starting her recording career, which brought her talent to the attention of an entire nation. She recorded in Nashville with her friend and producer, Mark Schatz. The "Wild Rose" cd is a a reflection of Ginny’s influences- Gordon Lightfoot, Merle Haggard and Claire Lynch.Mark Schatz called some of his friends in on the sessions : Bela Fleck, Wyatt Rice, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, John Jorgenson and Mark O'Connor. This was when nobody knew their names and they had just arrived in town. The people in Ginny's hometown of Santa Cruz were well aware of their music though, because Ginny and her friends had a daily diet of it on KFAT radio.

Now Ginny has returned to her music career full time and is enjoying the fruits of her labors. To find out more visit her at www.ginnymitchell.com.

We sing along with Ginny in our car
My 11 year old son and I play this every day on the way home from school. We each have our favorites, but we both LOVE Miss You Boy. This CD crosses the generational gap with rousing and touching, beautifully crafted song.

Very fine CD with heartfelt tunes beautifully sung by Ginny Mitchell
Ginny Mitchell's latest CD offers heartfelt tunes beautifully sung by Ginny. The CD contains some original songs as well as versions of the classics Stardust and When You Wish Upon a Star in which Ginny puts her own stamp on these great songs and really does justice to them. She also does a great cover of the Rolling Stones, Mother's Little Helper.

Ginny Mitchell draws you into her country music world, and you can't help but li
I'm not usually a big fan of country music. But somehow, Ginny Mitchell's new CD was thrust into my life. And for the first time in a long while, I found that I listened to country/folk tunes all the way through. Mitchell is an exceptional songstress with the ability to throw out her line and hook you in. One of my favorites? Sanctuary - a haunting, spiritual song that will leave you humming it, long after the song is over.

Ginny's "Ed & Alice" will bring tears to your eyes
Ginny's "Ed & Alice" brought tears to the eyes of almost everyone in our audience as she softly and gently sang this song. "Ed & Alice", along with her "Miss You Boy" definitely puts Ginny on the singer/songwriter map. And her version of the Stone's "Mother's Little Helper" serves as a reminder as to today's hectic life styles. Hope to hear a lot more from her in the future.

This project gets to the heart of the matter.
Ginny Mitchell’s newest release mines a deep vein of American country and rock with songs that go straight to the heart. From Eliza Gilkyson’s gorgeous hymn to love, Sanctuary, to a rousing version of the Stone’s, Mother’s Little Helper, this project is a lovely testimony to the essential wisdom we all carry around inside us, but sometimes forget is there. Oh, and this gal from Santa Cruz can out-sing the best of ‘em.
