Album Notes
Recorded live on April 23, 2018 at Baluardo Velasco, Marsala (Italy).

When I have a piano solo concert I just habitually sound my compositions interspersed with improvisations, in a continuous stream not preordained. I do not have in mind a prearranged sequence of pieces but I let myself be guided by the emotions and sensations that come from the place of the concert. Important moments in the preparation become therefore the journey and especially the exploration of the place where I will perform. I like to walk around, absorb the sounds, the colors, the smells, the dialects of the people: all this is reflected on the music that I will play, making every performance unique and unrepeatable.
The concert in Marsala gave me the way to review one of the most beautiful areas of western Sicily. The night before I had done another show not far away, in Erice, and I was full of beautiful emotions, a particularly intense concert, the meeting with beautiful people, a spring night in a very quiet place in which still resonated in me the echo of music played a few hours before. And then the short drive to reach Marsala, listening to the "Piano Improvisations" by Chick Corea, with whose initial notes, stay to resonate in my head, I then started the concert.
The salt marshes, the windmills, the sea in the background, the delicate and at the same time intense colors, the good food, the fragrant white wine. And, just before the start, the decision to record the concert, because I accidentally had with me my mobile recording studio, otherwise this music would be lived only in my memory and the public present, as happened so many other times.
It's been a couple of months before I listened to the recording and when I did it suddenly I found myself reviving the sensations of that April evening, in that place, on a memory journey through music.

Giovanni Renzo was born in Messina, Italy, in 1962. He graduated from the Conservatory in his hometown in 1986, continuing his musical education in Rome. He made his debut in 1979 as a jazz pianist. He regularly plays at concerts and festivals, alternating concerts with teaching and composition. Renzo has composed music for films, theatrical works, ballets, opera, multimedial performances. His first recording, “Eclisse” (1989), is a collection of piano solo compositions. Then he produced “La distanza della Luna” for piano and orchestra (1996 and 2007), “Il mare” (2001), live recording featuring Paolo Fresu, "Atlas Coelestis", book plus DVD (2008), “Infanzia” (2008) and "Racconti per pianoforte" (2010), again piano solo.
Since 2010 he is protagonist of the “Cosmic Concert”, an annual event for the Global Astronomy Month organized by Astronomers Without Borders and broadcast live streaming worldwide. Recently Renzo was quoted by the Spanish Blog "Los mejores pianistas del Mundo" as one of the world's greater pianist, mainly for his original work about music and astronomy.
