Album Notes
GLASSPIRITS is a 2-piece award-winning eclectic rock & pop band from Los Angeles, CA whose members are Joanna Glass (vocals, guitar, keyboard and violin) and Abe Perez (drums, keyboard, electronic drum pads and various percussion). Their sound could be described as a mix between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys and Muse with hints of Afro-Cuban percussion and twists of classical and electronic music. Glasspirits are highly trained professional musicians who have fresh, melodic rock and pop songs with an energetic live show.
Notably, Joanna plays with a modified guitar that simultaneously plays bass, making it possible for this duo to sound like a full band. Their uniqueness is derived from them alternating between many of their instruments during their live set; Abe moves to and from his drums, keyboard, and various percussion, and, likewise, Joanna sings while switching off between guitar, keyboards and violin.
They had a soft release of their debut LP, Mysteries of Rhythm: Dusk, in June of 2016. Glasspirits has spent much of 2017 producing 3 music videos and a documentary while making their rounds in the L. A. club circuit and perfecting their live shows. One of the music videos for their hit song “Strangelove”, a Depeche Mode cover, won ‘Best Music Video’ at the LBCCFC Film Festival. They plan to RELEASE and distribute digital copies of Mysteries of Rhythm: Dawn, worldwide, in 2018. This updated re-release will feature a couple of new songs and remixes.
Glasspirits are also producing a documentary, ‘Spirits Unbroken’, about the making of Mysteries of Rhythm, and their journey to be successful in an ever-changing entertainment world. It will feature interviews from popular musicians, such as, (Jeremy Masana of Stormer), as well as, experts in music (Dr. Samuel Grodin from USC) and the entertainment industry (Charles Gutierrez from USC).

JOANNA GLASS is a classically trained musician, recording engineer, composer and arranger. She started playing music by learning the violin when she was 9 years old and continued studying until she was a Violin Performance major at Cole Conservatory, in Long Beach. She has since played in many orchestras, recording sessions and toured in the UK with signed artist Betty Steeles. At 14, Joanna started attending Long Beach City College’s Recording Engineering program while she was in high school and graduated from their program in 2005.
Joanna owned a music production studio, recording music for video game composers and mixing sound for the film ‘A Promise’ that was featured at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. She recorded and mixed Glasspirits album Mysteries of Rhythm and wrote many of the songs. She also has a passion for arts, even designing the album cover. Joanna is also an award-winning director and editor of short art films and has used her skills to also direct and edit music videos and other content for Glasspirits. She is endorsed with Eno Music.

ABE PEREZ was born in Cuba. He also plays congas, cajon and other percussion. Abe started playing drums at 9 years old, then, professionally while he was in Jr. High School. He formed an all original band, Yankee Rose, which was signed by Satellite Records and produced by Greg Geddes (of Todd Rundgren from the Hello People). Yankee Rose played shows with Van Halen, Quiet Riot and many other big bands. Abe has also played with John Nelson, (former Eddy Money guitarist), Sky Furies (a Vegas show band that was produced by famous producer HB Barnum [who produced Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, etc.] and had a daily residency at the famous Roosevelt Hotel), “Come and Get Your Love” hit-makers Raven Hernandez of Redbone, Jimmy Espinosa and other members of Thee Midnighters.
Abe is endorsed by Spaun Drums, Scymtek Cymbals, Beato Bags, DB drum shoes, and most recently, Diamondback Drumsticks. Abe toured extensively and recorded on many albums. He is also a talented keyboardist and arranger and adds many of his arrangement ideas to Joanna’s songs in Glasspirits.
