Album Notes
“ONLY TIME WILL TELL” is a unique collaboration, a coming together of two generations of American and British roots music.

At its centre are two compelling musicians, Ian Gomm and Jeb Loy Nichols. Ian Gomm has spent the past 35 years making superbly crafted records, first with seminal British pub rock band Brinsley Schwarz and then as a solo artist, scoring a top ten hit in America with Hold On. He wrote Cruel To Be Kind with Nick Lowe and has produced, engineered and played with The Stranglers, Dave Edmunds, and Alexis Korner He’s been called, by The New Musical Express, Britain’s best rhythm guitarist. Jeb Loy Nichols grew up in the American mid-west and has, over the past ten years, released seven CDs. His slow burning country soul has won fans from Nashville to Berlin. He compiled the hit series of CDs Country Got Soul and has played with Shelby Lynn, Delbert McClinton, Richard Thompson and Lucinda Williams. He’s been called, by Rolling Stone, “the high priest of country cool”.

They have made a deceptively simple CD that effortlessly weaves together soul, folk, country, and jazz. It features new interpretations of songs by Bobby Womack, Jim Ford, Curtis Mayfield, and Clover, alongside originals by both Gomm and Nichols.

The CD was recorded in the Welsh hills in free flowing spontaneous sessions, and then sent to Nashville where it was mixed by David Ferguson (who recorded and mixed the Johnny Cash sessions for Rich Rubin).

The players, who pursued a ‘less is more’ approach throughout, include Clive Gregson (Richard Thompson, Nancy Griffiths) Pat McInerney (Nancy Griffiths, Don Williams) and Andy Hamill (Natasha Atlas, Cara Dillon, 4 Hero, Carleen Anderson).
