ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Dubbed "New Jersey's Troubadour," Gordon Thomas Ward is a solo, touring, singer-songwriter who performs throughout the northeast. His listeners travel mystical and historical roads, winding through lush, sonic landscapes along the way. At the end of his shows, audiences leave inspired! Employing his experience as a teacher, writer, storyteller, and radio and podcast host, it’s no wonder that his fans have commented on Gordon’s knack for establishing an endearing relationship with them through his extraordinary and captivating words and music.

His song stylings are cut from the same cloth as the works of singer-songwriters Dan Fogelberg, Neil Young, and Jackson Browne, yet Gordon's songs occupy a space all their own and linger in the mind and memory like cherished dreams. Gordon utilizes several instruments in his shows, which underscore his lyrical messages with a variety of tonal colors. He has worked with notable musicians such as Mik Kaminski (The Electric Light Orchestra, The Orchestra), Eric Troyer (The Orchestra, ELO II, John Lennon, Billy Joel), William J. Hall (Frostwater and Pete Seeger), and Carolann Solebello (Red Molly and No Fuss and Feathers), and he’s shared the stage with Christine Lavin, Bill Staines, Dave Fry, and The Boxcar Lilies.

Gordon’s first record Welcome to the Past is described as “a musical storybook," and his newest record Providence continues to reflect his profound approach to telling the stories of our collective hearts and journeys through song. Providence includes a wide range of musical genres from instrumental and Americana to folk and rock. While the theme of Providence deals with life's journeys, its songs entertain listeners with stories about love and loss, ghosts, coffee shop owners, and the historic Trail of Tears while also reserving time to comment on the serious topics of gun violence and child abuse. Gordon's clear vocals and poetic lyrics are adorned in alliteration, metaphor, and varied rhyme schemes that walk hand-in-hand with his skilled and tasteful performances on a number of instruments. He is joined by other superb, guest musicians who round out Gordon's evocative sound. Settle back and immerse yourself in Gordon's musical stories. Providence is one of those albums that fires on all cylinders and will be relevant and prized by listeners for years to come.
