Album Notes
Hash House is an exotic mix of classic house dance music with Latin, Jamaican and African beats. The album draws from the genres of trance, dub, reggae, techno, electronica and world music. The vocal samples come in many languages from every corner of the planet including Swahili, Sanskrit and Pashto to name a few.

There are prayers read by Islamic fundamentalists taken from terrorist websites. A Swahili chant beckons listeners to "rise up and fight." The track "Jah Makin' Dub" re-creates a Jamaican political rally with a live reggae band playing to the crowd.

Hash House began as a custom mix for the Moon Shiva nightclub in Monte Verde, Costa Rica. DJ/Producer W.J. McKay was longtime friends with the owner Karl E. Gray III who asked for "something new and huge" to play for his patrons, mostly visiting college students from Europe and the U.S.

"I wanted to make a new kind of house music album." says McKay. "First, it had to be danceable. But I didn't want it to be just mindless thumping. I think of Hash House as dance music with a soul."
