Album Notes

GO WITH ME – Second Chance: The 2nd album from Go With Me now available on Autarkeia Records.

Bob Idakaar and his band GO WITH ME follow up 2008’s Everything Almost Never Happens with Second Chance, a versatile yet solid rock album exploring familiar ground while spinning something entirely original of it.

Musician-songwriter Idakaar is again joined by his longtime music partner, multi-instrumentalist Bruce Gatewood. Second Chance features vocalist Rich Ortiz with additional vocals by Idakaar, Gatewood, Maria Brock, and the very gifted vocalist-pianist Tara Worth. Also on board are guitarist Randy Bernsen, drummers John Hvasta and Scott Miller, keyboardist John DePace, Brian Kornfield, and many more.

Moving seamlessly in-between rock and reggae, through funk and out to the simplest ballad, Second Chance explores elemental themes of love, struggle, redemption and, of course, that old elusive gift - the second chance. Produced and engineered by Idakaar and Gatewood, Second Chance features 15 Idakaar-penned originals. Opening the album is “(Go With Me)”, a tale of two strangers who find each other before the tune’s end. “Don’t Leave” features a catchy Motown-esque feel, right down to its engaging soulful lyric. The politically-oriented and current events-focused “Hard Times” speaks poignantly to both the mind and heart. For the title cut we get an upbeat rocker reminiscent of BTO. “Living Out Loud” crosses a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ vibe with a nice dose of Parliament Funkadelic.

BOB IDAKAAR records at MUZIKSTUDIO.COM, his own DigiDesign Pro Tools HD 8-equipped full production recording studio on tranquil Chesler Lake in Morris County, New Jersey where he works as a producer, engineer, and session musician. A veteran of many A-circuit clubs, Idakaar worked for a time as a studio bassist for several Atlantic Records recording artists. In his early days, Bob was a member of Mind Mural, Friction Addiction, and a plethora of almost one hit wonder bands! He has opened for several nationally-recognized acts including the Wilson Sisters, Taylor Dayne and, touring with the Roscoe Martinez Band, opening for the supergroup Chicago. Bob has also worked in film scoring and soundtracks. His major influences include Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows,The (original) Scattered Few, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jars of Clay, Neil Young, Steve Morse, Randy Bernsen, Deep Purple, Ken Hensley-Uriah Heep, Towers of London, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Ron DeFalco, Jeff Buckley, Sly Stone, & Roby Duke.

This is a just great record. Plenty of top 10 individual cuts to choose from, but it's even better when experienced as a single work from beginning to end. I found myself singing hooks and choruses of songs I'd heard only once - to me, a really good measure of the musicality and craftsmanship of the lyric. Each song seemed to remind of something. A place, a person, even just a feeling. It's fresh and different, and at the same time, very comfortable. Buy it. You'll thank me.

You must listen to "Calm Water"! This song can easily become (and should be) part of a movie soundtrack. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful and inspirational. Beautifully written by songwriter/bassist Bob Idakaar, this entire album takes you on a journey of life that all can relate to. The musicians are a collection of multi-talented individuals. You can hear the quality sound of every instrument in each song. After listen to all 15 songs, it left me wanting more...!!

Second Chance by GO WITH ME
Second Chance has a few different music flavors which remind me of the lighter side of Chilly Peppers, Floyd, the Good Rats ... My favorites are the title cut, Sparrow & Hard Times.

Go with Me
As a fan of this band I was very excited and proud of this album in particular. The work on "Hard Times" is very timely and appropriate to our country's struggles.. The band has a far greater sense of cohesion, enjoyment and maturity. My personal favorites include "Lonely in a Crowd" and "Sparrow". Again they seem to have the ability to provide songs that can be enjoyed by not only my generation but also my children and mother! Honestly there is something to be enjoyed by all, you will find yourself humming along!

GO WITH ME Second Chance
Go With Me: Second Chance
Reviewed by John Lee of INNER VOICE MAGAZINE
Second Chance, is the second offering by Indie crossover band, Go With Me. This eclectic collection of 15 tracks (that’s right, 15!) tells the stories of love and heartache (mostly heartache), life and its struggles, and God’s grace (in the form of second chances).
All the songs are original compositions by songwriter/bassist Bob Idakaar. Idakaar teams up with friend and multi-instrumentalist Bruce Gatewood, vocalist Rich Ortiz, and a talented team of accomplished musicians to record this collection of rock/folk-flavored songs (with touch of reggae) geared for the “seasoned” listener. For those of us who grew up listening to classic rock before they became classics, this album offers listeners their second chance to relive that musical era (minus the negative messages). Produced by Idakaar and Gatewood, this album flashed me back to shades of Neil Young, Eric Clapton and even Bob Marley.
Ortiz’s lead vocals, a cross between Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton, really shine in the inspirational piece, “Calm Water,” one of the standouts on this album. The recording quality is superior, as you can hear the acoustic instruments and vocals burst through brilliantly. On the inside sleeve of the CD cover, Idakaar thanks God for his second chance at life and music. He certainly made the most of it here with this wonderfully produced CD.
The Bottom Line:
John: Master musicians who offer their own mature (and family-friendly) brand of rock with a positive message.
Delia: I appreciated the variety of sounds on this album… some gentle and peaceful while others lively, passionate, and spirited.
Jim: A very high quality production… My favorite track is “Calm Water.”

Go With Me
Again and again I replay certain titles on this CD, in particular I play "Lonely In A Crowd" and "Sparrow". Most timely and relatable of all the tracks is "Hard times", which I find so in tune with our current economic problems. The songs are honest, timely, touching and hopeful. Attributes that are sought and appreciated regardless of age, gender or economic standing.
