ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Gary Paul’s songs are marked by photographic detail, an actor’s character insight and the craft of a storyteller, expressed in poetic lyrics and set to subtle finger style guitar work. His rich history & broad musical journey fill his songs with life. Winner of the 2006 Xtreme Folk Scene's Song Contest for, "The Man In the Black Chapeau” & three-time Nominee for New Mexico Music Awards, 2014-2015. His writing melds the songwriting traditions of the Northeast with influences from his travels through the South and Southwest. His work is a travelogue across both the American landscape and its music history, from traditional and celtic influences to knock-down blues, bebop and everything in between.

"Sid's Gaseteria" marks his recording debut, where we are introduced into the roots of his storytelling style.

The Songs:
• Miles From Canaan – A man who gets what he thought he wanted, only to find out how wrong he was. It asks the question: When do you let go of a false dream and move on?
• Caridad Christmas – a bittersweet tale of two lonely people spending a holiday alone together.
• The Man in the Black Chapeau – This happy little rag time song about a nice guy who doesn’t finish last won the 2006 Xtreme Folk Scene song contest.
• Johnny B. – The song from which the CD’s title is derived, it looks back at a loss of innocence in a time when the muscle car was king and the man who could fix them was thought to be a God.
• Rollez Les Bon Temps – A bluesy declaration of a man’s intent to start anew and live life to the fullest.
• The Hills of Morristown – Valley Forge got the press, but Morristown was where the Continental Army was really tested. This song examines that hardship from the view of a lonely soldier on watch on a cold and snowy night.
• Blood Red Moon – the blues that come when Nature joins family & friends warning of a heartbreak ahead.
• Requiem for the Misbegotten – A cryptic ballad in traditional styling of the despair of love gone awry.
• Road, Be My Lover – A ballad about the joys of love and the heartache of abandonment.
• Take Me Out and Get Me Loaded – A mirthful look at the duty of older siblings to watch out for younger ones and the trouble that can result from it.
• El Dorado – A ballad that examines the latest face of the immigrant experience in America.
• Jose Tejas - joyful Cajun romp that celebrates a place that’s everybody’s home away from home.
• Eagle Rock, September 12 – When the Twin Towers fell and all bridges and tunnels to Manhattan were closed, Eagle Rock became a place where many silently gathered in vigil for those they loved and lost.
