ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Graham Dent is a self taught jazz pianist who has been a gigging musician since about 1970 mainly in the Midlands UK. He has led several bands all of which featured his original compositions with their memorable melodies and the occasional touch of quirkiness. He has collaborated with several vocalists, particularly Roy Forbes, the Birmingham based jazz and soul singer, and has worked with a string of visiting soloists such as Alan Barnes, Dave O'Higgins and Jim Mullen.

Graham has three musical children and six grandchildren, four of whom are learning the piano. He hopes that some of his endless enthusiasm for music and particularly for jazz will feed through in the genes. What better way to celebrate the grandchildren than through an album of original compositions for each of them that try to reflect their individual personalities.

The album also celebrates Graham's recent move to Frome in the West Country where several successful musical collaborations have developed, most notably with bassist Ralf Dorrell and drummer Rob Brian who make up the piano trio on this album. They are both experienced and well respected professional musicians and make major contributions towards the success of this album, In The Genes. Let's hope the grandchildren also like the music!
