Album Notes
"Hi there! I’m Mary, often known as Grandma Mary. I love playing the guitar and this album is dedicated to all who share my passion for the guitar......"

Mary Ho, 72, must be the coolest grandma in Singapore and possibly the world. She first started learning to strum the acoustic guitar at the age of 60. What started as leisurely strumming soon developed into electric lead guitar solo playing. There has been no turning back since.

Despite initial fears, physical drawbacks and lack of musical training, Mary\'s love for the guitar drove her on. After years of hard work and perseverance, Mary mastered a sizeable repertoire, some of which she has performed on stage at public events. In this album, she shares with you a selection of her favourite pieces.

Mary draws her inspiration from guitar legends like Carlos Santana and BB King. Family and friends give her strength to carry on. Apart from playing the guitar, Mary also dances, plays the electone, drums and harmonica. She loves drama and travelling.

A devoted grandmother of seven, Mary continues to perform for charity and inspires her grandchildren to learn musical instruments like the guitar, piano, violin and drums.

Granny pitches in for ChildAid
As for this year\'s inaugural grandma participant, Madam Ho says: \"I was so surprised at being asked to perform because ChildAid is a charity concert by children. But I\'m happy to do what I can to help the needy kids. I\'ve lived through the war, so I know what it\'s like to be in that position.\"
(The Straits Times, 12 Oct 2007)

Still Rocking
"The lively grandmother of seven took up the guitar at the age 60 and has made such strides with the instrument in the past 11 years that she recently recorded an album of her favourite songs, including Santana hits Black Magic Woman and Europa…"
(The Business Times, 6 Dec 2007 )

Catch "Rouge" on MediaCorp TV Channel
Mary appeared on premiere episode of MediaCorp TV women\'s talkshow "Rouge" on 9th March 2008. She thrilled and inspired viewers with her rock and roll soul and spirited performance of Samba Pa TI composed by Carlos Santana.

Inspirational CD that shows that the love of music is a life-long passion
“Grandma Mary’s Latin Rock,” from the 71-year-old Mary Ho, is a release filled mostly with calm and mellow renditions of popular songs. The background instrumentation is relatively simple throughout the album, yet it is professional and not overbearing. This is because the focus of this instrumental album, is on Mary’s articulate and skilled guitar playing. On “Black Magic Woman” we really get a sense of Mary’s bluesy side as she plays with soul and gusto. On “Apache” we are presented with a quasi-soothing western song in which she lets her guitar sing out in a lovely fashion. On the final track, “Canon Rock,” Grandma Mary rips out some hot rock lead guitar riffs! This album is filled with numerous genres and sounds; it is for the most part a tranquil album, with some rockers mixed in as well. You will appreciate this album if you want to be inspired by an album that demonstrates that a love for music is a lifelong passion.
