Have you ever experienced ecstasy ?
I'm sorry to begin my review spitting out my fury at 'the music industry'. My anger knows no bounds that a recording as absolutely exquisite as this should languish in a remainders bin at my local record shop here in Montpelier, Vermont , although, in one singular way how very Vermont is this fact ! We have a saying up here in these Green Mountains that ' The way to discover Vermont is to get lost.' This has been something of a life philosophy of mine and whether I was exploring the fells of England's idyllic Lake District in my early 20's, up to Paradise Valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains behind Lake Louise in the 1970's or the streets and markets of old Toronto or exploring the dusty , winding back roads of Vermont in my beat up old Ford F150 pickup, somewhere, always, without fail, a treasure inevitably presented itself and enriched my life.
You find me here, sitting at my computer's keyboard, back from exchanging some of my LP's for this CD by Keith Greeninger and Dayan Kai and a few other found treasures, keen to see what the day had brought me. I can sometimes speak and write eloquently (or do my daughter tells me) but I feel inadequate to express how immersed I have been this past hour as I soak up Keith and Dayan's creative, musical, lyrical brilliance. There is no doubt that (and I discovered this when the Jackson Browne cover arrived) their music strikes many a familiar chord but I am loathe to place too much emphasis on this comparative exercise as I do not wish to take away one moment of my appreciation for the work of these two fine artists. All I can say to them both is "If you do nothing else with your lives, this is enough !". I am blessed to have encountered your work and they have rightly soared to what I describe as my 'essential desert island' discs'!
