Album Notes
Rusty Air in Carolina by Mason Bates, commissioned by the Winston-Salem Symphony in 2006, describes Bates’s memories of the Southern summer. The buzzing of cicadas and katydids blend with the sound of the orchestra, the blues, and the misty heat of a Southern dawn, to bring these memories to life.

A Pilgrimage was the winning submission in the GSYO inaugural (2014) Young Composers Competition, open to all students in North Carolina ages 18 and younger, to motivate aspiring composers and give them the possibility to their have works performed by their peers.

The album concludes with George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with GSYO Music Director Nate Beversluis conducting from the piano.

"Taking It Home" was recorded in Spring 2015 at Brendle Hall, Wake Forest University and at The Manifold, Pittsboro, NC. and produced by Nate Beversluis and Peter Zlotnick.
