Purpose / Mission
GreenSeeds Music Society (@GreenSeedsMusic) is a collaborative project among musicians, artists, and teachers to create environmentally-themed educational materials using songs, visual material, and drama. The purpose of the Society is to raise awareness about environmental problems by encouraging youth to think about healthier, more sustainable ways of living. The Society aims to highlight the need for these changes in two ways: by creating environmentally-themed teaching materials, and by engaging youth in various age-appropriate activities using drama and/or hands-on projects that incorporate green techniques and practices.

Objectives:
As a group of musicians, artists, and teachers collaborating to produce environmentally-themed children’s songs and stories, we recognize that schools often are unable to address environmental issues effectively because they lack adequate teaching materials. We intend to fill this gap by providing new learning opportunities for youth in the form of inspiring, light-hearted music, art, and drama activities. These experiences will be aimed at increasing individual understanding of everyone’s right to a healthy environment and our shared responsibility to maintain it together.
In the near future, the Society will collaborate with various musicians, artists, and teachers to hold workshops and develop materials for presentation to schools of all levels throughout the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada and the World. These unique, innovative teaching materials will consist of song recordings, videos, ebooks, and interactive media.
We will be available to visit preschools and elementary schools to perform environmentally-themed songs to young children. These presentations will help to create awareness about environmental issues and identify strategies that can be incorporated into daily life to make it more environmentally friendly. We also will be prepared to work with children as young as three-years-old in exploring ways to care for our environment so that everyone can enjoy fresh air, healthy food and clean water.
Eventually, the program will be extended to older youth, using a more hands-on approach with do-it-yourself projects that incorporate technological solutions which can address the pressing need to reduce carbon emissions and create a sustainable environment.
