Album Notes

FLY BROTHER FLY, Greg Bishop's debut outing blends exotic and cinematic textures to a contemporary vocal and instrumental setting. A collaborative project with his brother Theo Bishop, Fly Brother Fly transcends new age music with the lyricism of Greg's flute and the honest loftiness of his voice.

FLY BROTHER FLY brings together a range of contemporary genres, from the latin Rhythm of Love with contemporary jazz guitarist Marc Antoine, to the Celtic-inspired Longing for the Green, to the soft vocal ballad Always You. Bishop's music also exhibits a deep sense of spirituality and passion, and it is that prevailing theme throughout the album that propels it to loftier heights. Fly Brother Fly the album's title cut, is a hymn of strength and courage. "Just spread your wings and close your eyes, believe it and my brother you can fly", the song's lyrics state.

Greg's music has been recognized as healing music, Sound Healing. It impacts listeners emotionally, energetically, spiritually and physically in what Greg calls A Musical Awakening. Music can reach and effect all of these parts of us bringing healing and integration. As a Certified Rolfer, Rolf Movement Practitioner and Cranio- Sacral Therapist, Greg is well versed in the healing and integrative arts.

An accomplished flutist formerly of the country/folk group Tuxedo Cowboy, Bishop has taken his education and musical experience into the new age genre, while at the same time expanding upon it. Classically trained at University of Idaho, Greg achieved a Masters in Flute Performance from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He has performed with symphonies in California, New York, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin and Idaho. He has also performed in The Czech Republic, England, Hawaii, Fiji, Brazil and Australia.

Bishop's compositional influences come from classical, jazz, new age, world music, symphonic progressive rock, and his four brothers, all noted musicians and writers. "Mine is a musical family," Bishop says, "while I was a huge fan of the Beatles, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and CSN&Y, I was also listening to my brother's bands, The Wackers, Providence, and Telesis who were all innovative and top-notch." Other musical influences include Jethro Tull, YES, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Pat Metheny, ELP, Andreas Vollenweider, Enya, Joannie Madden and more currently, Eyal Amir, The Flower Kings, and Steven Wilson."

An avid skier, mountain biker and outdoorsman who loves to hike and travel, Greg says "Much of the inspiration for my music comes from being in nature."

"Art is inspired by creation," Bishop says. "I strive to be the best I can be so that I am able to get out of the way and let divine inspiration flow through me. Music is not the notes but the beauty, the healing, the emotion and the mystery. Music can touch the deepest, highest and least understood parts of our being in ways that we cannot even imagine." Ludwig Van Beethoven believed that "music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life". Greg Bishop agrees, adding, "I consider it a true privilege to be a messenger of music."

Fly Brother Fly

Overseas review of album Fly Brother Fly
I am a big fan of "New Aage" type music and this one was commented to me a few days ago. Tremendous algum with a great mix of vocals, insturmental, and generally relaxing music. I have it in my car and goes well with driving. My wife also loves this music, waiting for their next album. Good job!!
