Album Notes
Gregory Lewis & Marc Ribot funky down Hammond B3 Gregory Lewis & Marc Ribot – Organ Monk Blue

I’ve reviewed a lot of Greg’s funky & down Hammond B3 jazz organ work over the last few years, but this one really stands out… you won’t find it available for samples for a while, though, because it’s not due to be release until 5 January, 2018 (I’ll come back & add the samples in as soon as I’m told they’ve been posted).

For this splendid eight-song set, Greg chose Marc Ribot – guitar, Jeremy Bean Clemons-Drum to join him, & they rock it HARD, especially on tunes like the 7:30 “Blue Sphere”… one hint, though – listen to it (at least on your first sitting) with your HEADPHONES on – & UP… some of the funkiest blues featuring Hammond B3 you’ll ever hear!

Since the album won’t be posted up for a while, I thought you’d enjoy watching the trio in action (from earlier in 2017)… so, here’s a video I found of them gettin’ down to some serious funk...

Of course, the CD has a bit better clarity… recording quality is excellent, especially on tunes like the rarely recorded Monk tune “Blue Hawk”… it’s the longest track on the album, & they use it to “stretch out” a bit… their chops are totally “on”, & due to the excellent sonics on the recording, you’ll feel like they’re right there in YOUR living room; it’s definitely my personal favorite, & will be on my iPhone player for the long term!

I give Greg & his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.99 for this superb way to start off your jazz New Year. Get more information about Greg at the Gregory Lewis website.
